The traditional teaching of English relies heavily on memory-based methods with little emphasis on the understanding and appreciation of the Rules of English. At each Session we will emulate, as far as reasonably practicable, your child’s most likely experience on the day of the real 11+ tests. The Creative Writing element in Session F will be marked by one of the SDE 11+ Course teachers who is responsible for preparing current SDE students for the 11+ exams. As well as receiving a breakdown of the results, you will also be sent a scanned copy of the written English paper with some brief comments from the teacher. I stand to be corrected but the top VR score I spotted was 132.51 and the top Maths score 125.55, for candidates with overall ranks 141 and 60, respectively. Note that the top ranked candidate achieved significantly lower than each of these standardised scores. I enjoy teaching and teach my children ,not with grammar school as priority but primarily to help them since they go to a community school.The children realised church schools were of higher standards..So since I could not afford private school,I hit the bookshops....on a mission. The vast majority of the homework is ‘specific’ in so far as it is set to practice the topic(s) which were taught in the preceding lesson, as well as regular vocabulary and mental arithmetic practice. Homework takes approximately 2-3 hours per week to complete in Year 4 and 3-4 hours per week for children in Year 5. Additional Holiday Homework is also provided to continue practice and consolidation.
