Creative also released a Sound Blaster Live! Player 1024 edition, which is identical to the regular Sound Blaster Live!, but with the addition of some extra software. Creative also sold Multimedia Upgrade Kits containing the Sound Blaster Pro. The kit bundled the sound card, a Matsushita CD-ROM drive (model 531 for single-speed, or 562/3 for the later double-speed (2x) drives), and several CD-ROMs of multimedia software titles. As CD-ROM technology was new, the kit included CD-ROM software, representing a very good value to customers. One such kit, named "OmniCD", included the 2x Matsushita drive along with an ISA controller card and software, including Software Toolworks Encyclopedia and Aldus PhotoStyler SE. It was compliant with the MPC Level 2 standard. The addition of AE-7 to your PC rig basically means one thing — you're adding in a dedicated quad-core processor designed with one goal in mind — to deliver incredibly pristine and enhanced sound on your PC without overstressing your CPU. Sound Blaster handles audio processing on the card itself, freeing up your CPU to handle other tasks. The Sound Blaster Command software is also much better than the Sound Blaster Connect. I think you’re not only going to buy the AE-7 just because it has a (much) better sound quality than an onboard DAC; but it also has features like encoding, EQ customization, sound profiles and many more than ordinary DAC or sound cards does not offer.

Compare Sound Blaster

The numbers tell the whole picture. 5.1 cards support six audio channels while 7.1 cards support eight audio channels in total. 7.1 surround sound is a bit better if you have the right speaker system, but that shouldn’t guide you when looking for a sound card. Another major difference between sound cards is their main purpose. You have models designed to offer the best gaming experience and then you have audiophile sound cards. If you want the best gaming experience but still want an excellent (but not stellar) listening experience, get a high-end gaming sound card. These often have excellent music performance. Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (September 2003) is essentially an Audigy 2 with updated DAC and op-amps. Audigy 2 ZS uses the Cirrus Logic CS4382 DAC together with the op-amps and can produce an output SNR of 108 dB. There were a few slight printed circuit board modifications and 7.1 audio support was added. And yes, you can use 7.1 headsets with 5.1 sound cards. They will just play six channels instead of eight. Just remember that most 5.1 and 7.1 headsets offer virtual surround. They use two drivers but create virtual surround sound via software. Real 7.1 headphones often come with their own sound cards that support the true 7.1 setup. USB Vs. PCIe Sound Cards The audio control module (ACM) is just an extension of the sound card. It’s basically for convenience, so that you can plug your headphone and/or microphone, or adjust the volume. It also has a built-in mic. You can place the ACM on your desktop, so that you don’t have to route your headphone or mic’s cable all the way (behind) your desktop PC.

Surprisingly, the board also contained a large 40-pin DIP integrated circuit, bearing a CT 1302A CTPL 8708 (Creative Technology Programmable Logic) serigraphed inscription and looking exactly like the DSP of the later Sound Blaster. This chip allows software to automatically detect the card by certain register reads and writes.
