SodaStream sells perfectly sized bottlesfor all of its soda maker models, regardless of which exact model you own. Many of us probably still buy plastic bottles of sparkling water at the supermarket. But with the worldwide concerns over plastic pollution, there’s never been a better time to ‘get busy with the fizzy’ and buy a SodaStream drinks maker to make your own and stop adding to that plastics ‘mountain’.

The carbon dioxide gas used for each soda maker can only be provided via a pre-sized CO2 gas bottle. You’ll notice immediately that it comes with a different design, even though it takes up about the same amount of space as the previous two soda makers. Whilst screwing it in is reasonably easy, it does leave room for human error - make sure you've screwed your CO2 bottle tightly enough to avoid any escaping gas.

How long does Sodastream One Touch last?

These icons indicate the current level of carbonation you are infusing into your water bottle based on your pressure and the time you’ve held the button down. The third and final button delivers a higher level of carbonation by firing for about 15 seconds before ceasing. They’re more durable and easier to clean and arguably promote better-tasting carbonated water as a whole. Six shots of gas, which create medium strength bubbles, took 11 seconds to be dispensed, while the strongest carbonation setting saw seven shots of gas added to the water in just 14 seconds. When the water is ready you simply pull the bottle towards you and down to release it. Fill the bottle with cold water to the indicator line. If you overfill the carbonating bottle, you run the risk of overflow and leakage. If you don't fill it enough, the tube can't reach the water to carbonate it.

Do not use bleach or other harsh chemicals to clean your bottles, as bleach will react to the plastic. This will cause bad odors and will also weaken the bottle’s strength.

Is the Sodastream One Touch worth it?

The Sodastream Spirit One Touch measures W13.5 x L19 x H43cm. I found that it was reasonably compact on my countertop, however a smidge too tall to sit beneath my overhead cabinets. Whilst this wasn't an issue, it might be something worth considering if you have a small kitchen with limited counter space. As well as having sparkling water on tap, I've loved how fresh the fizz is. With shop-bought plastic bottles of fizzy drinks, I've found them to be noticeably flatter the next day. With the Sodastream bottles, however, the sparkling water maintained the same level of carbonation in the days following.
