About this deal

the only travesty is that we didn't get more of this bc forget Raihn's grovelling, forget Oraya's badassness. i loved that, but THIS. this is what made the book for me. it was the part that made me sob uncontrollably. whether or not Vincent was alive/dead, it made no difference because he was always with Oraya, in her mind, whispering thoughts.

It was beautiful seeing them falling in love even after all the betrayals and heartbreaks they endured and the way they fit so well together in each other's life and how they both understand each other's flaws and imperfections and yet loved each other fiercely and all consuming. The same thing could be said about Vale. The grumpy grump. He really gave old man energy at the start, but ugghhhhh sweetheart in the end. For humans and vampires, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always – always – guard your heart. The financials of indie publishing are also very different than trad, and they've been very kind to me. Because I take home all of my royalties (after the retailer cut OFC!), I make a comfortable full-time living from my books, and I feel like it would have been a lot harder to do that as a mid-list author if I was trad. Six Scorched Roses is a standalone fantasy romance novella set in the world of the Crown of Nyaxia series. Thoughts on the Plot

Lilith has been dying since the day she was born. While she has since come to terms with her own death, the deaths of everyone she loves is a completely different matter. As the town she calls home slowly withers away due to a mysterious god-cursed illness, Lilith takes matters into her own hands. This tumultuous father-daughter relationship is the most complicated thing in this book and not just because of the convoluted personality of Vincent it was also because there were so many things he hid from her and how he left Oraya in the dark without any answers which made her question her own existence. He thought he wasn't capable of love because of all the cruelty he's witnessed in their world but Oraya changed that part of him the moment he saw her. He loved her fiercely and all consuming but he also manipulated her life. But that doesn't changes the fact that he tried and tried for her even though he failed because of his selfishness and fear. Because I want you only, Lilith. Whatever of you I can have. I’ll take one night. One hour. One minute. Whatever you want to give me. I’ll have it.” Maybe the king always knew that his greatest love would be his ruination. Maybe he knew it the moment he met her. He’d know it the second time he died, too.”Unnatural life. Rightful death. And Vale and I, between both, beholden to neither, and everything we were ever meant to be. » After finishing Book 1 in Carissa Broadbent's Crowns of Nyaxia series, I was excited but also slightly nervous to jump into this novella story, which is meant to be read in between books 1 and 2. I enjoy novellas but given the richness of the world Broadbent created in book 1, I wondered if a shorter form style would work well. All I can say is, it 100% DELIVERED and Broadbent once again blew me away. I just loved this book, it’s so hard for me to write this. I just want you to read it and love it and thank me for recommending it. 🥹 Thoughts on the Characters Secondly, I hated how Oraya gave everything she had worked so hard for up to save Raihn’s ass ONCE AGAIN. I already talked about how the author used the plot devices of the first book in this one but I have to mention this again. ORAYA BE SERIOUS RIGHT NOW, THIS ISN’T YOU. I can somehow justify your stupidity once but twice? This is too much. I am the Nightborn King,” I said, voice low and deadly. “Do you think I’m going to beg for your respect? I don’t need your respect. Your fear will do. Bow.”

For a novella, this book was extremely well thought out. The pace felt extremely well done for a book so short. The story never felt rushed or dragged out, everything had a time and a place. it was beautiful, seeing him opening up to Oraya. about his motivations, his loneliness, the way he'd do anything for her to just be okay again.I'd die to know her personally and have her write little daily snippets just for me, because she's just that good. I have the softest spot for quotable authors, and she's a total champ in this department. There he is." He is perfect and I'd gladly bow for my powerful king. He is flawed and imperfect yet he tried his best for his kingdom even though they treated him as an usurper king and betrayed him. He proved all of them wrong. His growth in this book was commendable. He was so conflicted about his role as a Nightborn king and felt the burden of it because nobody was ready to accept him as a king but he appreciated his strengths and even his weakness and fought for his kingdom. And I loved how he was so patient with Oraya and made her feel safe and loved with his thoughtful and sweet gestures. It slowed down a lot more, which I loved and didn’t mind in the least. It allowed for the plot to just breathe, for the world to be build even further with talks of vampiric politics and war strategies. For themes to be unraveled through magic and gods and fantasy. I read the Serpent and the Wings of Night earlier this year and absolutely loved it and had really high hopes for this one- and it DEFINITELY lived up to them bc I freaking devoured this book 😩😩 It's not QUITE as good as the first one but it was still SUCH a good sequel 🤭🤭❤️❤️

Just when I thought I couldn’t love this series and these characters more. Carissa proved me wrong again with her amazing story telling. I'm so obsessed and in love with with these characters and this series. I love them so much. They both went from enemies to allies to lovers again. They were broken by something or someone from their past but they never left each other's side even if Oraya hated Raihn for what he did to her during Kejari trial. Honestly, this is one of the BEST Beauty and the Beast retellings I had the absolute pleasure of reading in a long time. I am so happy that I got to experience these two and their journey and cannot wait to reunite with them all soon. I was provided an e-copy of the book by the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. the way Oraya was shook after all the events that took place near the end of the previous book. she just broke after all that. but then, she rose from the ashes and then slowly claimed herself, and everything that was meant to be hers. i loved her so much.I liked anger. It was tangible and strong, and it made me feel powerful. But I felt anything but powerful when I was forced to recognize that Raihn— the man who had lied to me, imprisoned me, overthrown my kingdom, and murdered my father— genuinely cared for me. maybe the king always knew that his greatest love would be his ruination. maybe he knew it the moment he met her. I'm in love with Raihn, he is charming, very handsome, protective, stubborn, sweet, and will do whatever it takes to protect Oraya. I loved that even though Raihn acted tough around other people, he was always so sweet and protective of Oraya. Raihn's character development was great, I enjoyed learning about his past through his perspective and watching him as he faced new challenges. I am really happy that we got more information about Vincent’s past. I was so curious about his character after finishing the first book, and as I said in my review of the first book, I loved his complexity when it came to his thirst for power and his love for Oraya. I desperately needed to know more about him, and I am glad for all the glimpses of his past we got.
