About this deal

Ruin (Dark Island Scots #1) by Jolie Vines is a romantic suspense told in first person from multiple points of view. It’s the first book in a series with a continuing storyline, and as such, it ends with a cliffhanger. The story follows the relationship between Thea Stewart and Struan Gallagher—aka “Ruin”—as Thea uncovers the sinister secrets of the remote island she visits twice a year. Most of the story is told from Thea’s and Struan’s perspectives, but there are seven other character POVs, ranging from one-to-three chapters each.

Violet I really want to give her a hug she so sweet and always thinking of everyone else before herself. Sinclair Stone AKA Sin is on the run with his family having escaped their imprisonment on a remote island. The only person missing from their crew is Violet Hunter AKA Lottie, the girl who he has been fantasising about for a good year; the girl who refuses to leave with him. He's bitter but focused on keeping his family alive and safe. Even though I loved Ruin (because hot headed, angry, possessive men apparently do it for me), Sin kind of stole Struan's thunder a little bit in that book. I was a little hesitant about this couple, though because I wasn't sure about Lottie. I loved Thea for Struan. I wasn't sure I'd get there for Sin and Lottie. I just ADORED this story! It was dark, gritty and scorchingly passionate. This author has always been fantastic at her craft, but I definitely feel that this series will push her up to another level. Thea's personal journey from meek and gentle girl into a woman of courage, who fights to take control of her life, was heartwarming and almost victorious. I loved her innocence, her good heart, and her passion for Struan. In turn, I adored how Thea made him feel - giving him the tenderness, love and belief that he'd been crying out for all his life. Struan was a brash hothead but I loved his fierce possession of Thea, and the way she made him feel vulnerable and raw. They made an unlikely pair but were so right together. Such an amazing start to a new series! As this story begins, Ella is younger than most heroines I usually read about. She is only 17. And at times, this romance straddles a New Adult line. But I am happy to report that she ages three years over the course of the book and by the end, feels like a grown woman.

Seeing Camden and Breeze fall for each other while healing from their past trauma was something I needed. These poor men suffered so much because of McInver and seeing them heal and find love has this reader smiling and giggling. Camden, I feel like, needed to heal the most. He was dealing with all the things in these books, and because he rarely talked about his past, that needed to happen. Finding out how he got his scar broke my heart. Breeze also had some healing to do, and I can’t wait to see her growth continue in the next book. This book was equal parts the romance between Scar and Breeze and the continuation of the family's story that started with Ruin. There is something about them, all of them, that will have you rooting for them. The loyalty they share, the fierce way they protect each other, the determination to figure out ANY WAY to keep their family together - heartwarming and emotional. I liked this one much better than Sin, the second in the Dark Scots series focused on Lottie and Sin, because the relationship seemed healthier.

Was I entertained? Not really. Did I like the story? Yes, more the premise. Would I read the other book in the series? No, I am not sure if I personally connect with the authors style and that’s more of a me thing. I may need to read another book to see. However their were parts I thought could have been explained a little bit better and parts that using common sense could have solved the problem but where would the excitement be in that… I enjoyed Camden and Breeze’s story. It’s my favorite in the series so far. Even though Camden rescued her, his relationship with Breeze didn’t have the smoothest start despite their chemistry. At first, they seemed to have opposing goals, but they soon found common ground. Like both books that came before it, Scar was full of suspenseful twists and turns. Some pieces of the mystery were revealed, but other questions still remain to be answered in the next book. I can’t wait to read the conclusion and find out how it all ends in Burn.

Scars book is next out in November so we'll have to wait a few months to uncover more secrets and I'm sure more unanswered questions will arise! Excuse me.” The female half of the eavesdropping couple took a step closer to the counter. “Are there any more of those scones?” Sign up to her newsletter to be the first to hear about new releases, giveaways, and pro JOLIE VINES is a romance novelist who lives in the South West of England with her husband and young son. That is really all you need to know about Jolie Vines’s newest book, Hero. Hero is the third book in her Marry the Scots series, and, thus far, it is this reader’s favorite.

Ella's ready to move on to university and claim as much freedom as possible, but the only way she can get out from under her abusive uncle's guardianship before she's thirty is if she gets married. Who better than her brother's best friend, a man who rescued her once and still sets her heart on fire each time they meet? Pffff I loved everything in it, the struggle between Gordain and Ella, the difficulties they are challenged with .... Normally I would hate that. I want love, love and more love. But you know what? As a reader, I *needed* Struan's story. I needed to read about his suffering and his anger and his defiance. My favorite scene is after we hear Camden's story, from his own mouth, and this was his realization: In a short space of time, I'd gone from wanting her desperately to needing her completely. I didn't know shite about love, but I knew a lot about my heart. I was falling in love with Breeze.
