About this deal

Most of the Shanling M0 Pro features lie within the menu system. There are five major options within the main menu and the Shanling-developed Mtouch Ingenic platform operating system. I got mine for about 140 dollars. They had a sale for 169 and then I got them to take off another 15%. I'd say that's a pretty fair price. I wouldn't have paid full price, at that time you could get the r3 saber for a bit more on sale. That was a better value, I just liked the smaller hidizs- it looks cool in blue. Using a similar single SoC DAC chip configuration, the M1s uses a single ES9038Q2M but then compliments it with a pair of Ricore RT6863 amplifiers. These extra goodies also increase the price tag

The bass comes through nicely and so does the midrange in a warm manner but the high frequencies seem to be quelled around 2 or 3 decibels from the rest of the spectrum and that seems to be done purposefully. You could always use the EQ or the MSEB feature to obtain a brighter signature. Although the M1s did not initially support streaming, adding Tidal functionality opens up a world of possibilities for users, allowing them to access a vast library of high-quality music without depending on files on a user’s hard drive. This feature enhances the device’s versatility, making it even more appealing to music enthusiasts. The DAC inside of the M1S is an ESS ES9038Q2M DAC Chip, which we’ve seen before in some beefy products, for example Hiby R6 III has a dual configuration of those DACs, but also Shanling Ua5, which also has two, HIDIZS S9 PRO, Dethonray SG1 Pegasus, and also SMSL C200. The DAC chip itself won’t be a strong indicator of the performance of the product, as it is much more important how it is implemented and the electronics that accompany it for the final sound. In this aspect, Shanling M1s comes with Dual Independent RT6863 AMP Chips, to create a balanced signal, and the balanced signal has a high maximum power of 245 mW for an impedance of 32 OHMs. The Single Ended output is considerably weaker, at a max power output of 144mW for a 32 OHM load. The M1s chassis seems to be just as solid feeling as their other similarly constructed models. They’re all made from a piece of solid CNC-machined aluminum alloy. I would call the construction hefty, not heavy.

Features

Since the M0 Pro was recently reviewed and is fresh in the memory bank I thought it would make an interesting comparison and contrast device. Even though they’re similar devices with similar features. So, you could connect the R2 II to a PC via USB and transmit its audio to a TWS or you could simply use the R2 II internal player to transmit to a TWS. What it can’t do is receive a BT transmission and then re-transmit to a TWS. Updated MTouch system gets all the extra features from the M5s, including Wi-Fi connection and streaming capabilities, it even adapts a similar UI design. But this time powered by a more advanced Ingenic X2000 platform, opening space for future software development.

To enhance the audio experience further, the M1S has dual independent RT6863 amp chips that produce up to 245 W of clean power via the balanced output port. Many audiophiles are fans of these chips, and that’s for a good reason; I’ve yet to hear of a terrible-sounding device that uses them. My only gripe as far as build is concerned would be the open SD card slot on the side, as it seems it would allow easy entry to liquid or dirt, but that’s not a dealbreaker by any stretch, you’ll just have to be careful. Shanling M1S Review: Sound A top-to-bottom swipe gives you access to a toggle on/off mode screen along with a screen brightness adjustment slider. The bottom portion of the screen gives you direct access to the built-in player. The new Shanling M1s MTouch Player is now said to combine the best of the previous models, making it the ideal representative of the Shanling MTouch Player Series. All the features of the Shanling M5 I mean, It’s good to have this app, and is much appreciated but you can always transmit from any music app you have via Bluetooth to the M1s and it will work almost the same. This also applies to IOS users so don’t feel like the M1s will not fulfill certain duties. The 2100mAh battery charges up from low battery shutdown in 2 and a half hours in my case with a 2 amp charger. The M1s does not have wireless charging capability or fast charging either it seems. This applies for most countries. However, large items such as headphones and desktop DAC/AMPs (e.g. HarmonicDyne G200, MUSICIAN MDP-2, and etc.) are excluded. The new Shanling M1s has all the features of the Shanling M5, including WiFi and streaming functionality. The user interface has also been taken over from the Shanling M5 to guarantee comfortable control, and the new Shanling M1s comes with a housing that corresponds to the form factor of the Shanling Q1 and is equipped with a 2.8-inch touchscreen display. This is complemented by controls inspired by the Shanling M Series with Google Android, the Shanling M3X and Shanling M8. Moving over to “fue mejor” by Kali Uchis, I was impressed by the dynamics of this player; it played with a lot of speed and bass depth through the Audeze earphones and kept my head nodding through the whole song. I have never heard of a player with so much musicality and life at this price. Shanling M1S Review: Conclusion

It should be noted that I have absolutely no affiliation with Shanling. I’d like to thank Shanling for providing the sample for this review. This review reflects my personal experience with the Shanling M1s Music Player. Every opinion expressed is mine and I stand by it. The purpose of this review is to help those interested in the Shanling M1s DAP find their next music companion. We listened to more songs than those named in this playlist, but those are excellent for identifying a sonic signature. I recommend trying most of the songs from this playlist, especially if you’re searching for new music! The playlists are different for Spotify, Tidal and Youtube, and based on the songs I enjoy and are available on each! I would leave it alone since not only does that soften the overall signature but hiss is also contained even further since it’s at those high frequencies that hiss occurs mostly. Again, most of these devices have an inactivity mute feature so it would be difficult to provoke any hiss production. Staging & Dynamics The Shanling M1S is a compact yet powerful digital audio player with high-quality sound performance, advanced features, and a sleek design. With its superior DAC chipset, powerful amp chips, and advanced functions, this device will impress audiophiles who are always on the go.

However, if you go single-ended, then you will obtain an almost indistinguishable sound signature from both models but you lose some screen real estate space on the M0 Pro plus the R2 II is the only model that has a dual microphone with a voice recording feature that might come in handy one day.
