About this deal

The most efficient way to feed the lawn because all of the fertiliser is delivered directly on to the lawn Medium-sized lawn areas. Always use a spreader for an even and easy application of granular lawn seed and lawn care products. When to use

When it comes to setting the distribution rate, the process is very straight forward. The spread rate can be adjusted using the yellow indicator that’s positioned by the hopper – it clearly states which setting is selected and takes a lot of the guesswork out of product spreading. Finally, if you’re particularly keen to work rain or shine, look for a spreader with a lid or cover . Open-top spreaders can get clogged or jammed if the contents get wet.

My Top Recommended Lawn Spreaders

From a lawn feed spreader designed for bigger gardens, to one for those smaller lawns now with the Gardena hand-held spreader. Ideally, you want to find the perfect balance between ‘as few refills as possible’ and ‘maintaining manoeuvrability’. This will depend on the size of your lawn and the density of product that you want to spread. When used with either fertiliser or grass seed, it spreads the particles evenly over the area, dramatically improving results compared to doing the job by hand. It’s a good choice for medium-sized lawns. A good choice for Smaller lawns where you have to be careful about the spread, and top-class quality materials make this Gardena product well worth a look.

There are some of us who would prefer to use a rotary spreader but only have a small garden and are worried about getting unwanted chemicals in places we don’t want them. Even when walking at the slowest pace, the larger broadcast spreaders still distribute the contents of the hopper and some distance and it can be hard to control where it goes in a small or narrow yard. The handle can be adjusted for angle, and folded down for storage. No tools required for assembly. How to use To use this product at its optimum, Evergreen suggests that you walk at a pace of about 1 metre per second, but going a little slower had no noticeable negative effects, so don’t worry if you’re not exactly the Usain Bolt of the gardening world. But this is subjective as the wheels are directly connected to the turnstile so if you walk slower you’ll get the same release I found from testing, so not quite sure what they mean – just take your time – the speed my daughter demos worked absolutely fine for seed… But if you want the best, and can afford to spend the extra money, the Lesco 092474 is hard to beat! Unlike our other Scotts product review, this one is a drop spreader and works in a slightly different way. Where a rotary spreader will use a turntable to throw the fertiliser, weed killer, etc. out in multiple directions, a drop spreader distributes the contents of the hopper straight down.By contrast set to 0 is practically closed, ideal if you’re loading up in the shed and then walking your unit to your lawn – this makes keeping your seed and fertiliser in the shed all the easier: The main thing to watch out for are corners – it can be easy to accidentally distribute too much product. The drop spreader is not easy to ‘turn off’ at a corner because the aperture only closes when the yellow indicator is pointing to ‘0’. This is difficult to change whilst in the middle of distributing product. Most lawn spreaders have adjustable settings so that you can easily dictate the rate at which it will distribute seed and fertiliser. Simply adjust the setting according to the product you are using (see our spreader settings table) and away you go. There’s an on/off grip handle so starting and stopping the application of the granules is easy and accurate when you get to the end of a strip. If you want to use the Scotts AccuGreen spreader for 3.2lbs worth of fertilizer, you will have to set the spreader to 5. With these values, the tool will cover the grass perfectly. Across larger areas (we’re talking acres!), you can use bigger, towable spreaders – look for a capacity of approximately 40kg to cover ¼ of an acre. This lawn feed spreader is a part of Einheell’s Power X-change range of products, and so, is powered by the same 18V lithium-ion battery as other products in the range. What this means is, that if you already own one of these , or you are thinking of buying more in the future, you can use the same battery for multiple tools. If something is ergonomic, it means that it has been designed to fit with the human body’s shape in the most efficient and comfortable way. Some products have better designs when it comes to this, and it will make a difference to you if you are using the tool for long stretches of time, so look for a good one. You won’t need a degree in engineering to assemble this lawn feed spreader either. In fact, it’s a doddle to put together and will only take 2 minutes as you can see from my video. In fact, it took me longer to cut the lid open than the actual setup process 😀 Even with the cover in place, it’s still possible to keep an eye on how much product is left, because the transparent material provides a window into the hopper – so, overall, there’s a definite sensation that the designers of this large lawn spreader had first-hand experience using these kinds of tools. So, what are the negatives? Well, I can only really find one, but it might be enough to put some people off. If you’re working on a large scale, you’ll be able to fit roughly a 20 kg bag of fertiliser or lawn seed into the hopper at a time.
