About this deal

Although designed for all kinds of paces (from recovery runs to uptempo sessions), the majority of testers consider it more suitable for daily training and long runsthan for speed workouts. If you’re looking for a reliable pair of running shoes, this collection is perfect for you. You’ll be able to find a wide variety of Saucony Triumph 18 shoes in this range. Specially designed to help you improve your performance on long runs, these shoes come with a rubber sole designed for durability and traction and plenty of protective cushioning. Using the innovative FORMFIT cushioning, these shoes shape to your feet making it feel like they were designed just for you.

The update to the upper was needed. Not only did it help the shoe drop a considerable amount of weight, but it’s also made the shoe more breathable. Saucony says that the Triumph 18 has been retooled for a faster feel. It has a new midsole design and an upper which is more streamlined and less padded. The Triumph 19 comes with a second set of colorful yellow laces if you want a bit more pizzaz. Not a big deal, but a nice touch. Thumbs up for night running The midsole is a full slab of PWRRUN+, Saucony’s “award-winning” cushioning compound. It’s the same stuff that you’ll find in the Saucony Hurricane and Freedom. What I liked most about this cushioning is that it stayed consistent on the run. From mile 1 to mile 10, even in the hot hot Summer sun, the shoes felt super-cushioned and responsive. Beneath the foam, you’ve got a full covering of rubber for plenty of traction and durability. This shoe has a smooth transition and generally comfortable ride. Shop Triumph 18 – Men Shop Triumph 18 – Women The Bad Jacob: The Triumph 18 employs a full-coverage, consistent density high abrasion carbon XT-900 rubber with key decoupling including a deep channel underneath the midfoot and beginning of heel. The depth of the channel perhaps also contributes to why Sam noted the heel feels softer, as the cutout makes it easier to compress the foam.

At the rear, the heel counter is rigid and padded, while the heel collar provides a snug fit for a soft foothold. The gusseted tongue is less padded than on the previous version (presumably to shave some more weight), but it doesn’t impact the comfort. Getting to the good part, I first laced them up for a moderate 5 miles on the treadmill. Putting them on felt amazing. I will honestly say they are one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes in my current rotation right now. The PWRRUN+ midsole (8mm drop) material has made a splash in 2019/20. It’s like a magic power. It isn’t your grandmother’s EVA midsole. It’s PU based and reports 3x higher durability– more flexible, less sensitive to temperature changes, and lighter to boot. Think about it as a lighter BOOST foam, but don’t get it mixed up with PWRRUN PB that you find in the Endorphin Speed and PRO. That stuff is even lighter and has Peba as an ingredient. Saucony says PWRRUN+ gives the runner the best of six aspects of cushioning – impact absorption, stride response, pressure reduction, energy return, durability, and weight. Sam: The outsole replaces the 17’s extensive forefoot to midfoot slippery and I found soft and mushy crystal rubber (orange below) with fairly firm high abrasion carbon rubber with no horizontal cut outs to the midsole as before but with longitudinal ones. The consistent rubber firmness contributes to a very consistent feel underfoot from heel landing to toe off and a slightly more cushioned and stable feel than the 17.

Running in the Triumph 18 grew on me. In my first run, I was concerned with the weight, and the shoe felt clunky. Subsequent runs, I started to enjoy the subtle bounce from the midsole and the excellent fit of the upper. My runs got smoother, and the extra comfort was appreciated. Also, this shoe is not light. My W7.5 came in at 9.6 ounces (272 grams). That’s entirely too heavy for a neutral daily trainer these days, even one with a lot of cushion. Shop Triumph 18 – Men Shop Triumph 18 – Women Saucony Triumph 18 Conclusion The Triumph 18 is free from midfoot overlays so the upper is more relaxed and comfortable compared to the stiffer midfoot of the Triumph 17. There are also new overlays on the sides of the toe box for extra protection. The on-foot feel is soft, seamless, and slipper-like with plenty of padding and no pressure points. It reminds me of the soft and very comfortable Freedom 3 upper but more structured in the heel and more padded overall. It doesn’t feel snug—kind of low around the ankle—but foothold is great, which is an unusual and enjoyable combination. Sizing is perfect as well with a comfortable amount of space for my medium width foot. The TPU topsole which sits directly underneath the insole brings the cushioning system closer to the foot so foot strikes in the Triumph 18 feel even more bouncy.

The upper, midsole and outsole have all changed but the Triumph 18 performs only slightly differently to the Triumph 17. It definitely is an overall improvement but a small one. In summary, 2021 is a very good vintage for the Saucony Triumph, with a new version rich in improvements. We see little reason to pass upon it, especially if you’re looking for a comfortable premium shoe for your long runs. The outsole is very resistant with a good amount of XT-900 rubber while remaining flexible and allows for miles of running without early wear on the platform. The grip is also perfect on dry and wet pavements alike.Pwrrun+ is also unaffected by climate changes so it won’t become firmer in cold temperatures or softer in warm ones. On cold, Johannesburg winter mornings, my runs remained cushioned and springy. Soft with more snap - New midsole geometries coupled with a new, durable rubber outsole make the cushy ride of this shoe feel faster. The Triumph 19 shines among the crowd with one key detail for those who are shopping for a new pair of running shoes: Great cushioning. This makes the Saucony model ideal for hefty runners. Perfect to wear for long-distance training, the Triumph 19 has a sole with a sufficient grip and excellent flexibility, rendering it immaculate for training on smooth terrain such as asphalt. The weight here is low, tipping the scales at only 258 grams, making it an extremely nimble model that wouldn't feel noticeable on the go.

These characteristics make the Triumph 18 the perfect shoe for relaxed long runs over 6 minutes per kilometre. Minor design choices such as the embossed “18” on the heel and well-placed reflective elements add to the professional feel. However, upon lifting the shoe for the first time, the high weight is quite apparent—never desirable, but the hope is that weight will lead to comfort, durability, and a ride that’s not possible in a lighter shoe. JEREMY: Is any other company releasing as many quality shoes right now? From the Kinvara 11 to the Ride 13 to the Endorphin line ( Pro, Speed, and Shift) almost all of Saucony’s 2020 offerings have met or exceeded high expectations. The Summer of Saucony continues, with the release of their latest shoe, the Saucony Triumph 18. As the name suggests, this shoe is a winner. The Triumph is designed to provide comfort first and foremost, but at the same time to provide a little boost of speed and a faster feel to the easy and long run days. When compressing the midsole with my fingers, it felt firmer than last year’s midsole and reminded me of the Everun foam on previous ISO versions of the Triumph. Walking around I agree with Jacob there is no sense of mush or over softness but for sure this is a soft shoe. I am sure that full coverage outsole plays a big role in keeping the underfoot out of the realm of oversoft pillow

Saucony Triumph 19

This is a neutral shoe aimed at runners looking for a daily cruiser that’s all about comfort. It can manage tempo runs and fartleks, but it’s not something it excels at. Being a highly-cushioned trainer, it's perfect for building up the mileage. Sam: The T18 is yet more cushioned, slightly more stable, especially at the heel, heavier and has a smoother transition but gets nudged beyond the daily trainer category by its weight where the T17 sat on the upper end of weight for me into the easy days realm. I do not miss the crystal rubber even if the T17 has a teeny touch more response. The new Triumph upper while on the warm side is superior in all respects: heel hold, not as snug arch hold, and toe box vertical volume. The big difference between the Triumph 18 and other top-tier neutral trainers is that it has the flair of new-age midsole materials.
