About this deal

Factory reset - If you wish to completely reset your radio to its initial state perform a factory reset. Choose 'System' then 'Factory reset' and then choose 'Yes'. All user entered settings will be erased. During our time with the Roberts Play digital radio, we found the device to be attractive, well-made and brimming with useful features. However, it definitely could do with a few extra capabilities, like the option to stream content straight from your smartphone. However, since you can do that with almost any other speaker system these days, you might not need streaming on your radio too. The Roberts Play digital radio is one of the lesser-known products in the Roberts portfolio. It doesn’t have the same trendy standing as the Roberts Revival or the same retro charm that we’ve come to know and love from Roberts. However, the Play does have an appeal of its own. The Play20 is simple to use, when you first switch it on it will automatically tune in all the radio stations available. You can then go through and store your favourites with the station preset button. For more information on the Play20 call 0845 3303 655 or call into one of our stores in Oxfordshire.

Press the On/Off button to switch on the radio. A start up screen will be displayed and a station scan will be performed. Scan setting - Choose 'Scan setting' and then choose either 'Distant' (your radio will scan for both weak and strong signals) or 'Local' (your radio will scan for stations with good reception). Press and release the Info / Menu button to cycle through the various FM display options. The display options are station name, scrolling text, program type, Manual tune - Choose 'Manual tune' and then choose the desired DAB channel. The signal strength will be displayed. Although there is an extendable aerial built into the Roberts Play radio, we didn’t need to use it, and it’s unlikely that you will either. What’s more, the layout of the buttons makes the Roberts Play really easy to use, even if you’ve just got one hand.

Battery life Up to 25 hours using alkaline cells depending upon volume, and operating mode. Circuit features

We would recommend for economy that the Play 20 is used via the AC adaptor whenever possible with battery operation for occasional or standby use only. If extended listening using batteries is anticipated, then the use of rechargeable batteries is recommended. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons and then press and release the Auto Tune button. Your radio will scan upwards (low to high frequency) or downwards (high to low frequency) and will stop automatically when it finds a station of sufficient strength. If this is the first time the radio is used a scan of the Band III DAB channels will be carried out. After each use the radio will remember the mode used and then switch on in that mode the next time it is used. To switch off your radio press the On/Off button.

The Roberts Play digital radio is about mid-range for price, but it looks like a more expensive device, particularly when you see the Roberts label on it. What’s more, this kit comes in a range of colours to suit your style, just like many of the other devices in the Roberts portfolio. Please be aware that the sensitivity of headphones can vary widely. We therefore recommend setting the volume to a low level before connecting headphones to the radio.

Note: If no signals are found it may be necessary to relocate your radio to a position giving better reception and carry out a scan for new stations. Slide the switch inside the battery compartment to the Alkaline position (as shown) and insert four AA size alkaline batteries. Take care to ensure all batteries are inserted with the correct polarity as shown inside the battery compartment. Then replace the battery cover.Plug the mains adaptor into your radio and then plug the adaptor into the mains. The charge / battery indicator will flash green indicating the batteries are charging. Batteries will be fully charged in around 7 hours and a message will be displayed. The charge / battery indicator shows a steady green light when the battery charging is complete. Some radio stations may have one or more additional broadcasts associated with them. If these are available they will appear immediately after the main station.

when using alkaline batteries the battery switch must be placed in the alkaline position. Failure to do so could result in serious damage to the batteries or radio. If no batteries are fitted then set the switch to the Alkaline position. This minimises the power consumption when the radio is powered from the mains. Keeping your music with you on the go is easier today than ever. You’ve got smartphones, MP3 players, tablets, and so much more to stream content wherever you are. The question is, what happens when you want to share high-quality sound with the people you love? Designed for versatility, this FM, DAB and DAB+ radio comes with a built-in battery charger. That means that with careful planning, you never have to worry about losing connection to your favourite stations. Additionally, the Roberts Play is pretty well-priced when you consider some of the higher costs associated with things like the Roberts Stream.Press and release the Info / Menu button to cycle through the various DAB display options. Choose from, scrolling text, program type, multiplex name, date, bit rate, audio type and signal strength. Apply a long press on the required Preset button 1 - 4. The display will show for example, 'Preset 01 Saved'.
