From a comfort point of view, the RS2’s 10in tyres do a good job over potholes, and I could swap terrains from pavements to grass and concrete easily without changing speed or losing control. Range is better than average for this price point at around 15-20 miles maximum depending on your weight.

The problem with range on a scooter is that you need a big battery to provide it – the Xiaomi houses a whopping 13Ah battery (436 Watt hours) which means the total weight of the scooter tips the scales at 14.2kg. Not the lightest to carry around, but just about manageable. the battery comes with a two year warranty as well which provides peace of mind against degradation. Out of the box, not much needs doing to the Riley RS1; you will need a small hex key (supplied) to tighten the brake and you'll need to screw on the handlebars.It's a simple process and takes just a few minutes. Acceleration is brisk and almost silent. You can hear a slight electrical whirr of the motor, but it’s not intrusive. Soon you’re feeling the wind through your hair (or scalp in my case!). It’s a wonderful feeling. The big 10” tyres have excellent grip and I was never worried about slipping around corners, even in damp conditions.I've found that's enough for short commutes and other short local trips, although the battery level indicator seems very unreliable – it would vary wildly during a trip – sometimes going up and sometimes going down.
