About this deal

This is the eleventh in Rachel Lynchs excellent series and a brilliant addition. A first-class read .’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reader review Kelly’s first case involves ten-year-old Lottie Davies, a girl who is abducted, abused, and later brutally murdered. This case shakes this town to its core, and the local community is curious to know what the detectives unravel. Kelly is also following up on the case of a robbery after the death of Colin Day, a local businessman and an illegal immigrant. While the cases seem unrelated, Kelly discovers a web connecting these and other criminal activities that have gone unreported. The more Kelly threatens the crime network, the more her life is threatened by those who would do anything to bury the truth.

Since Kelly just moved to Lake District, she has been living with her mom, and things at home have not been easy. First, Kelly doesn’t get along with her sister Nikki who has always been their mom’s favorite. She can also sense that her mom is keeping something from her. While Kelly is not perfect, it is easy to love her. What is not to love about a protagonist who is dedicated to her work and is willing to go to extra lengths to ensure that justice is done? The whole story is just as intriguing, and it is exciting how the author sets the stage for the final showdown. The story delves into themes of betrayal, deception, and the dark secrets that can lurk beneath the surface of seemingly idyllic communities. As DI Kelly Porter digs deeper into the case, she must navigate through a web of lies and hidden motives to uncover the truth behind the skeleton's identity and the circumstances of its death.Helen and Grant are great protagonists and although I wasn't sure if this book, being so different to Ms Lynch's previous series, was my kind of read I was totally hooked very early on. The gradual discovery of what happened to Hakim was only one part of a mystery which didn't become clear until the finale took my breath away with its complexity and audacity. At the end of the day, this one was not for me for the reasons listed above. However, I can see where it would appeal to others, especially people who have been reading this series longer and therefore have a better understanding of these characters. Praise for Silent Bones ‘I absolutely loved every minute of this. It’s a favourite series of mine and as soon as I received this it jumped straight to the top of my tbr pile. A rollercoaster ride… I’d give it 10 stars if I could .’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reader review

Kelly and her team find that there is a link between the killings, not only the way they were killed, but the company they kept. I can see this book being part of a series and would be happy to read the next episode in Helen Scott’s career.

Publication Order of DI Kelly Porter Books

The case spins on the discovery that some people are not letting on to know as much as they originally suggested. From the teacher, Mr. Thompson who hangs out with children at the weekend and may or may not been a drug supplier to those same pupils to Michelle the owner of a Holiday camp who took pity upon a local no-good Jason Cooper. Thank you to Rachel Lynch, Canelo, and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review. I am a big fan of Rachel Lynch’s DI Kelly Porter series. So, I was intrigued when I received a copy of The Rift and pleasantly surprised too. The Rift is a completely different style to the authors usual writing style. But, different in a good way. I have read all but one of Rachel Lynch's DI Kelly Porter series; I love them. Rachel Lynch is one of my favourite crime writers, alongside LJ Ross and Angela Marsons. Her books are gritty - she pulls no punches with her source material - and her characters feel like real human beings, with everyday lives and issues of their own to deal with. Kelly Porter is the kind of detective, whereby, if something bad happened to one of my loved ones (Heaven forbid!) I'd want her on the case! Major Helen Scott is a high-ranking woman in the Royal Military Police and has a well deserved reputation for achieving her goals. So what better choice would there be than Helen to oversee the search and rescue of the kidnapped son of successful businessman Kahil Dalmani.
