In 2009 he presented the United Kingdom version of Hole in the Wall for the BBC, replacing Dale Winton, after being a team captain in 2008. In November 2017 he released his debut studio album, From the Top, on Polydor Records. It reached number 21 on the UK Albums Chart.

Recalling the incident, he continued: “…I got stabbed in the leg and in the stomach because of a fight on Boxing Day and it was an idiotic situation. You’d move room to get away from all of it and then he follows you in and the next thing you know the violence starts and then it came to a head one evening, I ended up in hospital for three days. In March 2007 Du Beke was a contestant on the BBC Two series The Underdog Show and was paired with homeless dog Ginger. They were eliminated in week three of the competition. [ citation needed] Raymond de Guise and Nancy’s relationship develops in what could have been a hug of a love story, but by the end I couldn’t muster any care for either of them. Anton Du Beke is better known for his fantastic dancing prowess in "Strictly Come Dancing" and for being a well respected television personality. "One Enchanted Evening" is his first debut novel featuring glitz, glamour, scandal and secrets set in 1936 in a fabulous London hotel focusing on its magnificent and opulent ballroom. The storm clouds of war are gathering, and beneath the glitz and glamour of the ballroom lurks an irresistible world of scandal and secrets. Strictly Come Dancing: Anton Du Beke apologises over racist term". The Guardian. 5 October 2009 . Retrieved 30 December 2020. The plot moved along well for the most part, there were a few times where it dragged slightly, especially at the beginning, but then there is an event (no spoilers) and the entire story just shoots forward at a fantastic pace that is maintained throughout. I loved that the romance element was not obvious from the get go and slowly developed into what it became. I also appreciated the fact that the book ended where it did with their relationship. The revelation about Helene was also interesting, and the fact that it was hinted at early in the book meant that I had an “of course” moment. Jones, Catherine (8 August 2014). "Strictly star Anton Du Beke ready and waiting for Southport Flower Show – win a champagne tea with him!". Liverpool Echo. I mean, really? She'd rather stay a chambermaid and working all hours in a homeless shelter, than go to Hollywood? She thinks her volunteer work is more important than helping the man she loves achieve the dream he's been working towards all his life?

Anthony Paul Beke (born 20 July 1966), known professionally as Anton Du Beke ( / d uː ˈ b ɛ k/), is a British ballroom and Latin dancer, author and television presenter, best known for being a professional dancer and a judge on the BBC One celebrity dancing show Strictly Come Dancing. His professional dance partner since 1997 has been Erin Boag. Whether you're a fan of historical fiction or a fan of Anton himself for his beautiful dancing etc then you'll love this book - give it a twirl and take a waltz down memory lane - you shouldn't be disappointed! As an historian, I loved the insight into the 1930s London in the period of the coronation of King George VI and the lead up to the Second World War. The book evokes the same nostalgia as Downton Abbey and Gosford Park, and I could easily imagine this to be made into a Sunday night series. But don't let this put you off as there stories weave together perfectly, and I soon got to grips with everyone.

Linked to aspect of the novel is a thread that focuses on the rise of Hitler and the Nazi war machine, which is making its presence known on British soil. There is a real mix of characters and personal situations. Class differences, nationality clashes, love and loss, career aspirations and family all feature in the character development. Continuity and change are key themes throughout the book and I felt that Anton du Beke treats these subjects sensitively. I remember walking out of the house to walk up to the hospital holding my leg and a police car drove past and I waved them down and I said ‘he’s in there with a knife’.

Off the dance floor, Du Beke is an author having published novels including We’ll Meet Again, One Enchanted Evening and A Christmas To Remember – and his solo tour, An Audience With Anton Du Beke starts this month. On the whole I enjoyed One Enchanted Evening, I felt like I left my worries and cares aside for the time I was immersed in this novel. It did lag a little in places, the timing wasn’t quite right and I didn’t feel the love story completely, but I was willing to overlook this for the sparkling world Anton du Beke recreated. With hotels jostling for superior status, the underground life of dancers and staff of this opulent establishment, the glamour as well as hardships of 1930s Britain was laid out well. Du Beke's regular professional partner is Erin Boag. They met in 1997, and won the 1998 and 1999 New Zealand Championships. They turned professional in 2002, competing mainly in the United Kingdom. Their best result on the competition circuit was in November 2003 when they won the IDTA Classic in Brighton. Keep up!

It took me several attempts to “get into” this book as the start is so slow and the list of characters at the beginning was actually slightly overwhelming as there were so many that I was worried whether I would be able to keep up with them all! I have not read the first book in the series, and perhaps if I had this would have been more enjoyable, as often with a series there is a lot of enjoyment in seeing the characters develop. What I also found enlightening was the mention of the new risqué dance styles that were beginning to make their entrance on the ballrooms of London. As the secrets start to unravel, each character is worried how it will impact on them, once they are exposed and it was interesting to see just how varied everyone's hidden secret was, each totally different to the other. Everything was about moving forwards, I felt sorry for my mum, this was her husband, she’s working two jobs and he chose to drink and be violent, it’s just life and you carry on,” he said. Although his mother encouraged his new hobby, his father, Antal, “took a turn” against Du Beke as alcoholism gripped him.
