About this deal

MERRY CHRISTMAS! This month we are recapping/reviewing It's a Wonderful Lifetime Christmas Movies. This week we talk about Christmas Plus one! Will we "Pour it up" or "Put a Cork in it"??? The only thing I missed was a table of contents with links to the stories. Because this is a galley, it might be something that is rectified later. I simply note it here and it does not affect my review. The 3 stars is because I found some stories here that I had encountered before and did not find them special enough to repeat them. The founder of a production company behind a unique Liverpool murder mystery show has said “there’s no better place” to promote diverse and unique theatre plays.

I mean, the books have their flaws (still not sold on Jane's aunt Millie), certainly. But mostly, I just think these books rae doing a really good job of doing what they're trying to do. Margery Allingham’s “The Same to Us”: Quite short story with no detective, which paint an amusing portrait of a vain hostess.

The Location

The murders take place at the mansion of the Karlov family, but this is not the only setting for the story. [5] Murders at Karlov Manor is the third set in the Omenpath Arc.

Nicholas Blake's “The Long Shot”; A classic country manor murder story. Not the best in the book but quite adequate. Christopher Lane is a great narrator. I was able to immerse myself in the story through his unique way of telling it. My only problem is that most of his female voices just seemed too much alike that I had to wait to see what name he would say said what to make any sense of it. Other than that, he did a great job. Overall, a decent cozy mystery that does the required job of cleansing my reading palate between books. Not too challenging, but better than half the stuff out there today (and I say that as someone who reads at least one cozy mystery a week.)No random guessing! Suspects have different stories if they're guilty, with important clues to help you solve whodunit.

Altogether it's a winner of an anthology, even for someone--like me--who doesn't read many mysteries. I found myself intrigued by the variety as well as the introductory data (which sent me looking up some promising reads that I never otherwise would have heard of), and I enjoyed the bite-sized tales, suitable for reading in a single evening when one is too tired, or too distracted, to sink into the length of a novel. It starts with a large stash of cash, and several secret invitations Klarinda has never seen before. Each guest has an invitation in their possession, no clue as to who sent them or why they’ve been invited to some remote B&B in the middle of nowhere. Even Klarinda is kept in the dark, with no proper reservations and no notice given. All she can do is get her guests set up in their rooms and make them as comfortable as possible. The Long Shot" by Nicholas Blake: The lord of the manor is killed--poisoned by ginger-beer that it seems nobody could have poisoned. Nigel Strangeways uses a handkerchief to get the culprit to give her/himself away. This book is a part of the British Library Crime Classics. These are classic British mysteries, most of which were written during the golden age of crime writing, that are being re-published. Having just read Bude's Death on the Riviera: A British Library Crime Classic, I was extremely excited to dive into another.
