About this deal

You’re seeing how different authors depict the underworld and how it works. Often, the underworld is depicted as the Christian form of hell or as an underground cave-like area. You can do so much with depicting the underworld, and this one they did. So I’m interested in reading the rest of the books in the series. A lot of stuff will get fleshed out more. While the story of Persephone’s kidnapping is infamous to modern readers, some historians also believe it represented Greek marriage customs. While abductions were a common way to bring new women into a community in many ancient cultures, the Greeks ritualized this practice as part of the marriage ceremony.

This is a retelling of Hades and Persephone. There’s not much to say other than that. The plot of this book is very clear. It’s a modern take on a Greek myth, filled with plenty of clubs and journalism. I wouldn’t say that it is executed in the best way possible, but Hades & Persephone is a story that we all love (and if you’re like me) will never get tired of. I will say that the pacing was a little weird at some points, but overall the plot pulled through and I found it very enjoyable. Definitely one of the stronger parts of this book. it was brought to my attention by Saja (my buddy read for this book) that a lot of the information on this mythological book is not accurate. however, i decided not to hold it against the book as i was so drawn to the world, the characters, and the plot. i had an amazing time reading this i really did. i can understand why this might not be for everyone because of the inaccuracy, but i hope you’ll give this a shot. ☺️ it had a lot of spice…really GOOD spice at that to the point where i could not control my giggles. It has been a long time since Persephone has had to work. She has been the maiden of flowers, and her mother, the Harvest Goddess Demeter, has looked after her. After becoming a woman, she wants to be free even though the terms of a long-old pact are coming due. Hades, the God of the Underworld, has spent most of his life alone in the dark land of the dead. As the ruler of the souls of mortals, he doesn't have any attachments. But he thinks about the young goddess who was supposed to be his wife, and he knows it's time for his Kingdom to have a Queen. The sassy best friend with more personality than the protagonist and love interest combined! Woahhh, mind-blowing! 😩 Persephone is, nominally, the goddess of spring. If she was, as the story implies, born 20-some actual years ago, how has spring happened before her birth? Since she can't make her powers manifest, how does spring happen at all? Who gave her the title of "goddess of spring", if A) none of the other gods knew about her (as is implied) and B) she shows no gift for anything springtime-related? Either way, Demeter could receive no information from them when she realized that her daughter was missing. With no other witnesses, she had no idea where Persephone had gone.

I went and instantly bought the next books, despite having thousands of books on my TBR and having already spent my book money budget for the month. It's that good. If the rest of this author's books are this good, I'm a definite fan. All of that changes when she sits down in a forbidden nightclub to play a hand of cards with a hypnotic and mysterious stranger. Zeus, however, decided that Persephone’s time as a young maiden who spent all her time with her mother would come to an end. As the king of the gods, and possibly her father, he had the right to arrange her marriage to the man he chose. Capitoli brevi e tanti dialoghi. Lo trovo un romanzo perfetto da leggere tra volumi più impegnativi. Ottimo per rilassarsi e godersi un testo leggero e piacevole. Ancient people saw the marriage of the god of the dead and the goddess of spring as the heart of the cycles of the seasons and of life and death. Modern readers examine the kidnapping of the young goddess into a forced marriage.Ovid’s Metamorphoses: This Roman poem retells the Persephone and Hades myth and many other Greek myths. Kate starts to make friends in the middle of the book and falls in love with Henry. Henry is very enigmatic and mysterious, and dark. But despite the complexity of his character, he’s also very accessible. He doubts himself, feels guilty, and tries hiding his emotions. It’s evident right from the beginning that he truly cares about Kate. Hmmm.” He’s above me, beside me, everywhere. “I want you to cry. I want you to beg. I want to watch your face go red with the shame you’ll never be able to shake.”"

A brutal but common aspect of ancient warfare was the forcible kidnapping of young women. They would be married to their kidnappers and often never see their own families again. I really tried to organize my thoughts for this section of the review, but the events in this book are just so messy that I can’t even adequately explain my issues with the plot in a tidy manner. So, anyways, here goes.

If she did that, Zeus knew, the human population would soon starve. This would also mean that the gods would not receive the sacrifices they relied on from the people of earth. Nothing she did made any sense to me. Like in the beginning when she just kept going to the Hades’ club for seemingly no reason at all? Or when she was forced by the contract to produce life in the underworld and thought she could just bring some gardening tools and some dollar store seeds and that would just work? Not to mention that, if Persephone is college-aged and Hades is millennia old, the age difference is far beyond anything even Twilight could throw at us. Zeus chose for her to marry Hades. His brother was the lord of his own realm and a powerful god, so he felt that it was a good match that would benefit both. Demeter threatened to use her power as the goddess of grains and crops to cause devastating famines if her daughter was not returned. Because Persephone had eaten food from the Underworld, however, she was eternally tied to that place.
