About this deal

Always overestimate your needs and underestimate the specs. If you are trying to ride through the night on an epic adventure the last thing you want to start worrying about is an ever-dwindling light supply. Look at how long your ride will last then make sure you have a light that gives a comfortable buffer. Then bring an extra just in case. Turning the light on and off is super easy; just twist the light head. It’s an excellent system that eliminates the need for buttons of any kind. Pressing the red release button on the unit allows you to pop the light attachment off if you want to use the battery as a power bank, or when it’s time to charge the unit.

If I'm being honest though, that's not why I love this light. While that sharp cutoff might protect other road users, it also means no wasted light for you. When I initially reviewed the Outbound Lighting Detour I was a little put off by the fact that there's not a setting around 800 lumens. That's what I always prefer when riding through the city on longer rides and it is missing. Despite that I continued to use it and I've come to love it more and more. Right out of the box, Serfas’s UTL-6 Thunderbolt Tail light feels well-constructed, with a silicone-encased body and two silicone bands that secure the light to your seatpost. The bands accommodate seatposts of any shape and size, making the Thunderbolt easy to mount. Keep in mind, though, that this light is fairly long at just about four inches, so it takes up a bit of real estate on your seatpost. If you run your post low, you might not have enough room for this light. Balancing those features against your needs, you'll need to know what sort of riding you'll be doing, whether it's going to be daylight, street-lit, or totally off-grid in the dark. The latter will require more brightness up front so you can see where you're going. You'll also know how long you're riding for - it's no use having a two-hour battery life if your ride lasts three.

Normal – for a high level of brightness. The bike light’s battery lasts for about one and a half hours in normal mode.

With that in mind, let’s look at some comparisons out on the road. Here are the three light levels while riding in complete darkness: You can get around this by 3D printing the adapter yourself or purchasing it from retailers such as RaceWare Direct, which manufactures 3D-printed mounts compatible with most brands. Pros of GoPro mount This bike light has a brightness of 300 lumens, making it perfect as a front light. It also has three light settings, so you can adjust the brightness to match the trail where you are biking. There’s actually two different GoPro mounts offered by KOM. The bundle tested and shown here is the CM06 computer mount, which is different than their other mounts in that it has the quarter-turn tabs built into the bottom of it. In the majority of cases, the output of StVZO lights is measured in Lux rather than Lumens. Lux is used because it’s a measure of how much light is projected onto a surface (called luminance), whereas lumens simply refers to how much light can be produced. I used this light on the highest flash setting during testing and it lasted seven hours. That’s decent battery life that can be extended by using a lower power setting. DIY MTB Pro Tip: So which GoPro should you look for? Let me help with this article -> Best GoPro for Mountain Biking Should I Go for Front or Rear Bike Light? For starters, the two power buttons are difficult to push. And it was difficult to turn the light on and off; sometimes when you pushed both buttons the unit would turn off, but other times it would simply change the flash mode. There really doesn’t need to be two power buttons to begin with, since the unit is so small anyway.

Also noticed they stopped putting release notes in Garmin Connect mobile app. Saying we update often… How hard is it to tell users what you changed (it’s a lot easier than actually making the changes). The PWR Trail 1100L casts a nice, even, wide beam on the maximum mode. At the Mid mode (600 Lumens), the light ran for 3 hours and 40 minutes, besting the advertised run time by over an hour. The small lights on the side of the PWR Trail 1100L indicate how much battery life you have left. For those who instead intend to ride with less street lighting - such as in the countryside, parks, lanes, and off-road, the best bike light for you will help you see where you're going. The addition to this is that if you are riding in the city with plenty of light, the faster you go the more light you will want to feel comfortable so keep that in mind as well. For commuting things are a little less serious but you should still overestimate your needs. After a long day at work and a rainy ride home it's very easy to forget to charge your light. Longer battery is more convenient because you will need to charge it less.
