Fortunately, the 5.1 NEW: The Queer Lens: Bryan Fuller in Conversation with Amanda Bearse – a candid discussion between Fright Night aficionado Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror) and Fright Night star Amanda Bearse about the Gothic’s queer roots, the film’s queer subtext, and its metaphorical power

Charley and Amy are thus on the threshold of mature sexuality, a prospect that’s nearly ubiquitous in the teen sex comedies of the ’80s. But tensions soon arise: First one, then the other, hesitates to go all the way before Charley’s attention is wholly diverted by the sounds of his new neighbor’s arrival. This is symbolic of the fact that Jerry Dandridge will be the entryway for both Charley and Amy’s introductions to adult sexual life. But the extras don’t stop there. First off, there are several roundtable discussions that play like outtakes from You’re So Cool, Brewster!, as well as some panel discussions and screening Q&As. Then there are a couple of brand new pieces: a lengthy 35th anniversary table read of the film’s screenplay, an enjoyable featurette on the novelization process (as well as the recent reprint of the Fright Night novel by Encyclopocalypse Publications), and a truly fascinating conversation between Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller and actor Amanda Bearse about the gay subtext and context of the film that really digs deep into the material. Looking at the film's opening moments, beginning with the long panning shot outside of Charlie’s house, the improvement in depth and delineation is noticeable but, not staggering. Once inside his bedroom, things do get better. Grain is intact, occasionally rising to more obvious levels but, never to a distracting point. With the majority of story taking place at night or indoors, Fright Night isn’t an overtly bright film, although there are bright elements. The cinematography benefitted from the enhanced resolution and warmer chromatic accents. In many respects, the image is emboldened with a discernible boost to definition. While the increase in resolution isn't always on display, I believe that the majority of this is innate to the photography (there may have been a few minor digital touchups that I didn’t find compromising). The wide-angle shots that take place in the diner and around town looked very good.

NEW:SFX Storyboard Comparisons – a selection of original storyboards from key effects sequences, compared with their final filmed versions Included in the extras is a two-and-a-half-hour-long script read (which was filmed as part of a fundraiser) with the original cast (and guest stars, including Mark Hamillas Peter Vincent). What I appreciated about this segment is the fact that Tom Holland introduces the reading and he seems like a kid in a candy store. His face lights up when he talks about Fright Night, with a bust of Amy’s head in hand and props staged around him. The director takes great care to communicate with the severed heads, skeletons, and the like to be sure we know what each of them is thinking. That melted my heart and gave me, yet another reason to love Holland. Special Effects without accompanying film score (2:57), and Tom Holland without accompanying film score (0:42). The remastered Blu-ray is terrific, too. It is also sourced from the same new 4K master. While it cannot match the grain perfection, detail accuracy, and

Even compared to the remastered Blu-ray there's an obvious gain in tonal accuracy and intensity on that is filmic and faithful to the source, free of print blemishes or encode anomalies.
