Wow um, firstly the intial group ofuniversity kids are extremely unlikable. Spoilers here but one girl, Uehara, is obsessed with finding her senpai and the other two girls just complain all the time. The 'prez' is so cowardly and always belittles and complains about the other two girls, so pretty unlikable too and the mc has a crush on Uehara and basically tries to do everything for her whilst she goes on and on about her senpai. His only goal is to save her when she obviously doesn't even give the mc a second thought?? Shouldn't you be more focused on, i don't know, your own well being? Ugh, I just hate how the characters are written to be so unlikable that you literally have no one to root for when reading. The concept is great (kinda cliche but that's fine), I just wish the characters were more decent human beings. Kanna- One of the twins. notable for having a hideous face. She and her twin Kanna wear owl masks and serve their mother. The twins were the third and fourth children. eat the deformed creatures. One of the bunch gets an infected wound and maggots start to nibble on the necrosis, but again: no one says a thing! Mariko Glaccias- The mother and estraged wife of Yoshikazu. She was a Vatican agent and later becomes a nun on the island.

NOW THERE'S ROMANCE. holy god this plot is everywhere asdfghjkl he just asked 'why do I find her as cute a button' omfg you called her 'sis', incest much. Oh the family is being destroyed from the inside oof. Mari- The eldest child. She wears a mask to hide her disfigured face at the hands of her grandmother and is sadistic, being obsessed with boys and helps out her father and younger brother Kaoru to make sacrifices. She is the third most recurring member of the family.The MC was Takahisa a guy who had unrequlited feelings for uehara who was in love with Higashima sempei. That all changes when they go on the island and crazy stuff happens. We also meet Ami Murata the pig girl who Kaoru has fallen in love with due to her reminding of Zanta Maria.Also Hanakuro and Archbishop Maxlimilan also fights the family for their own agendas. At times they don't even match the rest of the body, just look deformed, even though storywise they should be intact.

Like the story orginally focused on the university group but then later chapters focus on the family now.Also it got popular in japan enough to get two spin offs one is a prequel called Zoumotsujima aka Offal Island which has alice meets the family and Alice herself shows up in the main series later.The Other spin-off is Koisuru Kihcikujima aka Freak Island in Love which is a romantic comedy parody of the original series with Kaoru and Satoru as girls and most likely Ami Murata will appear as a boy. Experienced showmen like Barnum knew that to draw in crowds the story behind the attraction was more important than the attraction or sideshow "freak" itself. Kichikujima also has a short anime spinoff called Kaoru no Taisetsu na Mono known as Kaoru's Precious thing in english focusing on karou and his family in slice of life situations. Kaoru- The second eldest child and the muscle of the family. He is the most recurring member alongside his father and oldest sister. He wears a pig mask to hide his face.His weapons include a knife,a hammer,and a chainsaw. Yoshikazu- The father and head of the family he is the one who discovered Zanta Maria and the stones.He is the second most recurring member.
