Press Release: Fujifilm FinePix S9600: improving an enthusiasts’ favourite Powerful digital camera with SLR-like body refines the popular FinePix S9500 The 28mm-equivalent wide end of the zoom range does produce some slight barrel distortion, but not enough to be a real problem.Fujifilm FinePix S9500 or FinePix S9000 is a bridge digital camera released by Fujifilm in 2005 and intended for the enthusiastic amateur. It is a member of the Fujifilm FinePix family and has been superseded by the Fujifilm FinePix S100fs. Enthusiast photographers will appreciate the Hyper Utility Software HS-V2 version 3 that is bundled as standard for the first time with the FinePix S9600. This software gives full functionality in RAW file conversion, which enables the photographer to explore the control and flexibility enjoyed when working with a ‘lossless’ file format. The FinePix S9600’s optional Wide Conversion Lens, WL-FXS6 , expands the camera’s wide-angle capability without compromising image quality. It allows the extreme angles of view normally only available with changeable lenses on an SLR camera. Also available is an optional premium leather case. Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm’s Director of Photo Products, said: “Digital SLRs are steadily dropping in price, which has increasingly made them an option for non-professional photographers. However, this affordability does not necessarily mean they are the best choice of camera, especially if the photographer is used to the flexibility and convenience that compact digital cameras can offer. The FinePix S9600 fills the gap between two worlds by combining the usability of a compact with performance that can challenge an entry-level digital SLR.” MyFinePix Studio contains a variety of features to help you manage and organize your photos. You use some of the tools to create albums to store and organize your photos, or use the tagging system to label and categorize your images. It also provides a range of filters and editing tools to help you fine-tune your photos and videos. Enhance, edit and print photos from your FUJIFILM camera

There are a couple of changes to the specification though. The S9500’s fold-out 1.8-in, 118,000 pixel LCD monitor has been replaced with a much better 2-in 235,000 pixel unit, which is – at least as far as I am aware – the highest resolution monitor on any camera currently available. It is bright and relatively non-reflective, making it usable in bright sunlight. As on the S9500, the monitor can be folded upward by 90 degrees for use as a waist-level finder, or downward by 45 degrees for overhead use. Shooting a white swan against the bright reflections on the water is an exposure nightmare, but the S9600 has taken it in its stride.

Shot from the same spot as the picture above, on the cliffs near Branscombe, this shows the power of the 300mm-equivalent telephoto end of the zoom range. FUJIFILM MyFinePix Studio is an easy-to-use photo editing and management software for owners of FUJIFILM cameras. It can be used for organizing, editing and sharing digital photos. Some of the main features include the possibility to manage, edit and print digital photos. Organize and tag images Of course if you can’t remove the lens you’ll want some decent glass up-front, and the S9500 certainly delivers the goods in terms of focal range at least. Where most compacts and all-in-ones start at a modest wide angle equivalent to around 35mm, the S9500 boasts a considerably more useful 28mm. It then optically zooms right into a powerful telephoto equivalent to 300mm and even offers a ridiculously close Super Macro mode of just 1cm. Try doing all of that with the bundled 3x zoom you get with a digital SLR. Focal range: Normal: Wide-angle: approx 50cm to infinity (in high-speed shooting mode; approx 2m to infinity) Telephoto: approx 2m to infinity (in high-speed shooting mode; approx 4m to infinity) Macro: Wide-angle: approx 10cm to 3m, Telephoto: approx 90cm to 3m, Super Macro: Auto, Red-eye Reduction, Forced Flash, Suppressed Flash, Slow Synch, Red-eye Reduction + Slow Synch
