see. knew youd accept me. dont you worry son. and no ew, havent u noticed that like the assistants to dentists are always super hot Written with a curiosity that jumps across geographies, time, discourses and disciplines, Everything the Light Touches is a gift to those who question the forms and preoccupations of the modern novel.” — Shubhangi Swarup, author of Latitudes of Longing Though you wonder if you’re not any better. Maybe if you were more upfront about putting a label on your relationships it would not have to feel so awkward to ask your classmates for help. It’s totally “friendship”. But everyone in this damn school is too proud to admit they like being around someone.

Big Monkey tries to push me away. Big Monkey always does. I do not go away. I lay down on Big Monkey’s face. Crowley moves towards the door as if to passive-aggressively say ‘OK, meeting over, bye!’ but pauses mid step at Grim’s growl. Grim thoughtfully hums. It feels more like a purr against your chest which helps calm your racing mind. “That shitty bird said just do what we did before… Do ya think that-”

Peter Pan

At the end of the book I was left feeling I had been on a journey both literal and emotional with the characters ,all of whom I found myself easily identifying with .Not a lot happens there is somehow not an end to any of the stories but I’m stead of feeling cheated I felt this was the whole point of the book As much as I loved the writing, I confess I didn’t quite understand the purpose of the characters’ stories. For me, it made more sense as short stories where the reader revisits each character. Or maybe that’s how it was meant to be. And yet, there were moments when I was utterly captivated by the poetic nuances. It was like a picture being drawn before my eyes – word by word. The cradle of the book—the first and final piece in the Russian Doll-esque narrative—is the story of Shai, set in the contested wilderness of Meghalaya, and conflates historical fiction with real-world questions of land ownership and the suppression of indigenous voices. “It was really important for me to explore how indigenous communities had been in tune with this particular way of seeing for as long as they had lived on the land,” says Pariat. “Yes, we have Goethe and the Victorian botanist, and we have Linnaeus at the heart of the book, but the story that really book-ends everything is Shai's story, a story about our relationship to the planet, to the earth, to land, to season. Yes, the book is about science and scientific discovery, but I am more interested in the point at which science and philosophy intersect.” He recalls when he first figured out the two of you were a match, as he reaches for your forgotten cup and starts chugging the remains. In this bold and brilliant work from the award-winning author of The Nine-Chambered Heart, journeys across continents and centuries intertwine in a multi-layered saga that unfolds through the lives of four unique characters.

Get a clue and realize you’re crushing on each other! I knew the prefect could be dense but Leona too?! Earlier, you and Grim agreed to split up and cover more ground when it came to finding a place to crash for vacation. You hope Grim will manage to find someone because… You haven’t asked anyone. We follow Shai as she leaves behind the humdrum of life in Delhi, and goes exploring her roots in Shillong on a magical journey. Everything The Light Touches is a fascinating film, it takes a simple premise; an Elvis impersonator, and reveals the incredible number of layers, and stories, to the man beneath. It is sympathetic and understanding and doesn’t shy away from the difficulties of Juan’s life, and the problems that he has encountered. Not many documentarians can face head-on what a subject offers, and delve further, but Evans has. And by keeping the film simple, and undertaking its making primarily alone, Evans has kept the intention of the film clear and precise. Because of this, Juan Lozano, through Evans’ eyes, becomes much more than a man, he becomes a hero. The third story about Johan was also boring. Somewhat interesting plant talk but it was overly intellectual and seemingly pointless.

Spoiler Warning for Changes and Skin Game. Takes place in the month before Peace Talks, but does not require any knowledge of that book. Cool, sweet and sour goodness flooded your mouth, while Ruggie readied his straw, intending to blow the paper still on it to hit you in the face. Janice Pariat: Pranay Lal’s Indica: A Deep Natural History of the Indian Subcontinent, Merlin Sheldrake’s Entangled Life, Robin Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass, Robert Macfarlane’s Underland, Sharmistha Mohanty’s Extinctions. Each of these in their own way offers us long perspectives, deep contexts, and geological timelines that teach us humility and gratitude, that place us and our species right where we belong, in the small, the fleeting, the joyful, the miraculous. Kunzum: What are you working on next?
