About this deal

Priming is necessary on new or bare plaster surfaces. A plaster sealer or primer provides an impermeable base that reduces wall porosity while improving adherence. This reduces the quantity of paint required, minimising the costs and duration of the project.

Most plaster primers are able to seal the surface with just one coat and you’ll just have to leave the surface to cure for about 24 hours before applying the paint. Ive never had a problem with a 50/50 water / emuksion for mist coat in the 18 years of plastering.. By the sounds of it the plaster has definitely been over worked/trowed/polished. Plaster primers I feel are just comercialised product. Waist of time in my opinion. So upto you if you want to use a plaster primer. A white wash/ mist coat is quite sufficient.

The mist coat was too neat meaning what little water there was is absorbed leaving the vinyl element of the paint on the surface of the plaster instead of actually soaking into the plaster evenly.

Choosing a colour palette for new plaster walls is similar to choosing a colour palette for any interior walls. You should consider the exposure to light, the size of the room, and the overall style of your home. Application: Brush, roller or spray. STIR THOROUGHLY BEFORE USE. Use Dulux Trade Drywall Primer Sealer on new or bare surfaces. The normal finishing process is 2 coats of a recommended Dulux Trade emulsion. Allow 2-4 hours between coats. A guide to the practical coverage which can be achieved under normal conditions is up to 15m² per litre.Cover all areas not to be painted with masking tape and lay drop cloths on the floor and surrounding furniture.

And tbh any vinyl matt emulsion really. Dont buy expensive emulsion for a white wash it will be a waist of money. Even a basic B&Q cheap home brand white emulsion will be fine. Even if you were going for a silk, or eggshell emulsion for your finish coat. You allways use vinyl matt for a white wash initially. Mix a 50/50 ratio of water and emulsion (white wash). Paint the whole ceiling making sure to coat everything and not to go too mad on this coat. You still have two more coats to go on there. The best way to apply the primer is either with a brush or with a roller; both tools are ideal to ensure a deep penetration of the product into the wall which is essential to achieve a proper sealing of the surface.Painting new plaster that’s completely dry can also leave you with uneven brush strokes. So, the next course of action is to create your own mist coat paint. Mist coat paint is simply watered-down emulsion paint, which acts as your primer. All you need to do is get some white emulsion paint and thin it out with water – it’s that easy! Ten parts paint to one part water should work.
