About this deal

Now, finally, vetiver may also really appear; earthy and slightly moist fragrant marries this fragrance with patchouli, also oak moss may not be missing, of course. With the result: Diorella is concise and powerful, and this style points to a modern one, away from the so-called classical form. Young cristalle are cold, young Diorellas are gentle, and their relationships are close, but often opposing from different angles. I bought a bottle just before I left and still have the empty bottle in its box. It ranks as my most favourite perfume ever perhaps along with Chamade by Guerlain which is another story. Great memories of my young days!!! Then my swap perfume arrived. Not from 2007, but from 2006, so well before the disastrous reforms in 2009. And NOW I get it! Gosh, this perfume is outrageously good! It is all what it is said to be and more! Sweet and savoury, fresh and musky, juicy and dry, clean and lived-in, fascinating, exciting, a multitudes of facets intertwining and playing in different lights like a sparkling gemstone. The recent one is nothing like this. It is nice, but boring. A picture so pixelated that you can just guess what it looked like once. I am sure that the 2006 version differs from the original one, too, but gosh, this is alive and shimmering with Life! Go for it if you can find a bottle! By the way, the modern one is harsh on what I think is a cilantro accord made by amping up melon, basil and lemons. It does retain the dreamy and languid quality the vintage imparts in feel but nothing beats the first iteration.

I would never have tried this if it weren't for an older lady who worked the counter at Carson Pierre Scott near where I grew up. Many a person may feel rather repulsed by chypre scents, too harsh, too harsh, too rough, too this, too that. This is understandable, as our scent sensations and preferences are as different as the big world of scents and not everyone likes it particularly harsh But I am of the opinion that with the green chypre scents of the classic design a look or a sniff is worthwhile. Roudnitska is a genius, his work cannot be destroyed with a simple rework. Traces of his artistry remain and even the worst reformulation offers us a scent that remains a work of art. More, much more than many insignificant creations around today. Diorella is a citrusy, fruity woody composition with a very substantial floral element and a chypre tonality. It has the individualist approach of Roudnitska around the same theme and is said to be his best work. Every day I went to Galaries Lafayettes to spray on just a little bit. It wasn't available in London and it was quite expensive but it just smelled expensive and gorgeous.

My Account

And innocence suggested me that Diorella is a stupendous, classy, fresh but not only fresh, floral but not only floral, young but perfect at any age, scent. It is interesting but not to die for, a nice cologne with some "animalic" notes that could probably be sexy under some circumstances. The not-so-large cyclamen in their leafy nests, slightly hidden among the bushes, don't want to bloom in obscurity. So they send their special fragrance and also immediately a first hint of earth: and thus become a harbinger of vetiver.

Out of high interest in Edmond Roudnitaka (he is one of my most admired master perfumers), I bought the EDT version, which is larger in volume, instead of Parfum. I wouldn't recommend a vintage Diorissimo - they're often at least leaning towards some funk if not half or fully turned/negatively changed. Dior Dior however is an above average fragrance when it comes to lasting through time (again at least partly dependent always on good storage techniques, bottle fullness as lots of headspace contributes negatively to many juices aging) I’m giving this full marks as I can’t find fault in it. It is the prettiest chypre that I’ve smelt. Edmond Roudnitaka has indeed demonstrated through his perfumes for Dior that "just a few elements are enough to create a considerable level and depth." DIORELLA gives the impression of a summer day in a green meadow, especially a day spent around a pond, with its olfactory qualities of cool water, algae, water plants, and even of rotting pond scum. DIORELLA is famous for its fruit notes which smell so ripe, they almost smell rotten... but always leavened with crisp clean notes of lemon, lime and fresh grassy notes. Roudnitska's perfume seems to say, "In the midst of life, there is also decay".

My Account

I would also like to mention that Diorella is one of the classically designed fragrances that can be worn by men as well. Also the gentlemen who have a certain shyness for flowers can be carefree, here everything is very well balanced. This might be an alternative if someone feels the same way about Eau Sauvage as I do. Diorella can pass for a Diorello What I find extremely interesting here at Diorella is the close relationship to Eau Sauvage, also created by Mr Roudnitska.
