Crows are considered to be a bridge between the living and the dead, and even act as a messenger in some cultures between the Earth and the Afterlife. One of the earliest mentions of ravens and crows is after Cain killed his brother Abel. Adam and Eve didn't know what to do with their son's body, since they had never experienced death before. They observed a raven digging a hole and burying its dead fellow, and this is where they first learned how to bury the dead. Crow Symbolism In Greek Mythology To study this, we didn’t put out dead crows paired with predators, we just put dead crows out on the sidewalk. And so I’m doing one of those experiments, kind of not thinking much of it. And suddenly the crows are doing something I hadn’t ever seen them do in that first round, which is coming down and actually interacting with the body. And so that spun off into an entirely different study.

Lots of non-human animals, including chimpanzees and orangutans, create useful implements which help them survive in the wild. The New Caledonian crow ( Corvus moneduloides) is one of only two species on the planet that can craft its own hooks in the wild. (The other is Homo sapiens.) The South Pacific crow uses the hooks, which are made from pliable twigs that the crows bend using their beaks and feet into a J-shape, to extract insects from tight crevices. If you have recently lost someone and been struggling with accepting their passing– the dead crow is a symbol that they are now at peace. Many cultures welcome a dead crow as a sign that their loved ones have no more unfinished business on the Earth, and their souls can rest in the afterlife in peace.

The universe is believed to communicate with us through signs and symbols, and dead crows are no exception. The way we’ve done those studies is to look at what’s called ‘emotion contagion’. Contagion is basically the idea that if your friend is sad and you’re like, “Hey, what’s up?” And they’re like, “I’m really sad.” And then you say, “Oh no, now I’m sad, too!” That is empathy, right? It’s taking on the emotions of another. We’ve been able to show that ravens are capable of something that looks exactly like that. There was this cool little study where they have two chambers where you had a demonstrator raven and an observer raven. They couldn’t interact with one another, but they could see each other. The demonstrator raven is given a box and it can look inside that box. The observing raven can’t see what’s in there. It can only see how the demonstrator reacts to it. You will have to weigh up the pros and cons and carefully consider the effect your truth-telling will have. When you see a dead crow, a serious health risk could be attached to it, and there is most likely a spiritual meaning behind this. The presence of a dead crow may invite us to embark on a journey of self-reflection and confront our fears, anxieties, and unresolved issues.

It takes practice, but there are definite tools that you can accumulate and you can get really good at it. The first thing is ravens are quite a bit bigger than crows. The second feature is if you look at the throat, ravens have these really kind of rough, heavily textured throat feathers, whereas the throat of a crow is smoother. And then the last feature is the shape of the tail. When ravens fly they have this kind of wedge-shaped tail, whereas crows have a more c-shaped, rounded tail. In Buddhism, the crow is a symbol of protection. Legend has it that the first Dalai Lama was protected by crows when his home was assaulted, so all the Dalai are protected by them. For Hinduism, it is also a sacred animal. its hunting is prohibited and its death is considered a sacrilege. Dreaming of a Crow Interpreted Transformation and change:Dead crows may also serve as a reminder that change is on the horizon. Just as a crow sheds its feathers to undergo transformation, we too must let go of old patterns and embrace personal growth.
