About this deal

The Prize is non-exchangeable or transferable and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers, promotions, or discounts. You can then start a new round of seeds in late spring and even a third in early summer, which will take longer to bloom. As your early crop starts to wind down, the second (and third) plantings will just be hitting their stride for summer and fall blooms. Sow Cosmos seed in trays or growing cells during early spring and cover with about 5mm of compost. The seeds are long and thin, so they can be easily handled.

Fixing this is going to take time. You can’t successfully transplant full-sized cosmos plants, and there’s no easy way to remove fertilizer from the soil. You can try planting another batch of seeds in a different area or just wait until next year and try again in less rich soil. 2. Too much water Make sure to grow your cosmos on the southern side of anything taller than them so they don’t spend hours in the shadows cast by the taller object. This could be a wall, mammoth sunflowers, your garden shed…take a look before you plant. These cosmos are planted next to a wall of vines, but they still receive enough light because they’re on the southern side.Cosmos prefer to grow in dry conditions, relying most heavily on regular irrigation only when they’re young seedlings. As native plants to Mexico and the Southwestern US, cosmos have adapted to be drought-tolerant plants. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7cm (3″) pots and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When Cosmos plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant outdoors in full sun in any moist, well drained soil at a distance of 45cm (18″) apart. Pinch out the growing tip of each stem when transplanting to encourage stems to branch and produce more Cosmos flowers. Dobies strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3. Sow Cosmos seed from March to May at a depth of 3mm (1/8″) in a good quality seed compost, and cover the seeds with a very fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Place the seed tray in a propagator at a temperature of 18-25C (64-77F) or seal it inside a polythene bag. Keep the soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light as this aids germination which usually takes 7-15 days. Keep in mind that cosmos are short-day plants, so if they are young plants, they will bloom best once days are under 14 hours long. They will eventually bloom, even if the days are long. To get the strongest flush of flowers, try starting them indoors 4-6 weeks before planting them out. Suttons Consumer Products reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any person it finds to be tampering or to have tampered with the operation of the giveaway, or to be acting in violation of these terms and conditions. Cosmos are sensitive to soil amendments, and a fertilizer heavy in nitrogen, in particular, will promote foliage growth at the expense of flowers. Cosmos perform best when planted in average soil without extra amendments. They will even tolerate poor soil as long as they get full sunlight.
