Copper Dog boasts a unique smoothness and complexity. Its flavour profile features rich chocolate Digestive tones, as well as nutty malt, orange peels and warmly spiced aromas – such as nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon. This combination of flavours creates an intense finish that lingers on the palate. The most celebrated was a nifty little device known as the ‘copper dog’, a piece of tubing with a penny soldered to one end and a cork in the other. A man’s best friend because it never left its owner’s side. Distillery workers hid these copper dogs down their trousers and in their belts, pilfering a dram before secretly sharing them around their local pub, comparing notes and hatching plans. Copper Dog is inspired by the resourceful rascals of Speyside; distillery workers who fashioned ‘Copper Dogs’ out of scraps of metal and pennies to smuggle out the Scotch they made to enjoy with their friends and family. They called them Copper Dogs as they were their owners’ best friend, never leaving the master’s side.” Copper Dog was awarded Gold in the International Spirits Challenge, which receives more than 1,300 entries in total every year from nearly 70 countries worldwide. When weighing up Copper Dog vs Monkey Shoulder, both are delightful blended whiskies originating from Scotland’s Speyside region. This picturesque location located between Aberdeen and Inverness is the largest whisky-producing area in Scotland, producing over half of all Scotch whisky available worldwide! A visit to Speyside will satisfy your craving for a truly special taste experience like no other. From Glenfiddich to The Macallan and beyond, the famous Scotch whiskies of Speyside have an established reputation for excellence. Notable brands like Balvenie, Glenlivet and Aberlour won’t leave you disappointed either!

Born out of the warm and mischievous atmosphere of the Copper Dog pub in the Craigellachie Hotel, Speyside, the liquid is a creation of a group of collaborators, connected by the original instigator Piers Adams, an entrepreneur and founder of some of the world’s most influential bars and clubs, including London’s Mahiki and Whisky Mist. Together, they got on to create a whisky that is rouge, inclusive, real and rascally. The sweet fruity smell is accompanied by a honey-cereal scent, adding to its warmth. Some also report that they smell baked goods in this delicious blend. ColorBoth Copper Dog and Monkey Shoulder are excellent Speyside blends, however, each whisky has its own unique characteristics which makes them great options for different occasions. Copper Dog’s intensity may be too much for some palates, so those looking for a smoother drinking experience may enjoy Monkey Shoulder’s lighter yet still complex taste instead. In this personal blog, I share my knowledge and insights on Whisky, Whiskey & Bourbon and other spirits, drawing from my 30 years of extensive experience.
