Kominsky, Morris (1970). The Hoaxers: Plain Liars, Fancy Liars and Damned Liars. Branden Press. pp.137–138. ISBN 0-8283-1288-5.

If you can’t fly, then run, If you can’t run, then walk, If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward." - Martin Luther King Jr. Prager, Edward (2005). A Dictionary of Jewish-Christian Relations. Cambridge University Press. p.85. ISBN 0-521-82692-6. Jesus was turned into the high priest and authorities by Judas, one of the twelve apostles that betrayed Jesus. Soldiers arrested Jesus. The claims Jesus made to be God infuriated the chief priests ( John 5:18; 8:58-59).Mark 1:1 ("The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God") identifies Jesus as both Christ and the Son of God. Matthew 1:1 uses Christ as a name and Matthew 1:16 explains it again with: "Jesus, who is called Christ". The use of the definite article before the word "Christ" and its gradual development into a proper name show that the Christians identified Jesus with the promised messiah of the Jews who fulfilled all the messianic predictions in a fuller and a higher sense than had been given them by the rabbis. [18] Confession of Peter (Matthew, Mark and Luke) [ edit ]

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." - Isaiah 40:28-31 Ramm, Bernard L. (1993), "Christology at the Center", An Evangelical Christology: Ecumenic and Historic, Regent College Publishing, ISBN 9781573830089 Cullmann, Oscar (1959). The Christology of the New Testament. Louisville: Westminster John Knox Press. ISBN 978-0-664-24351-7. Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” John 21:25 During the Sanhedrin trial of Jesus, it might appear from the narrative of Matthew that Jesus at first refused a direct reply to the high priest Caiaphas's question: "Are you the Messiah, the Son of God?", where his answer is given merely as Σὺ εἶπας ( Su eipas, "You [singular] have said it"). [26] Similarly but differently in Luke, all those present are said to ask Jesus: 'Are you then the Son of God?', to which Jesus reportedly answered: Ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι ( Hymeis legete hoti ego eimi, "You [plural] say that I am". [27] In the Gospel of Mark, however, when asked by Caiaphas 'Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?', Jesus tells the Sanhedrin: Ἐγώ εἰμι ( ego eimi, "I am"). [28] There are instances from Jewish literature in which the expression "you have said it" is equivalent to "you are right". [29] The Messianic claim was less significant than the claim to divinity, which caused the high priest's horrified accusation of blasphemy and the subsequent call for the death sentence. Before Pilate, on the other hand, it was merely the assertion of his royal dignity which gave grounds for his condemnation. [29] Pauline epistles [ edit ]

Although the world is full of scoffers, what is the hope of the Christian? 2 Peter 3:3, 4; Titus 2:13. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Even when you don't see God's love for you, you can still have faith that he loves you -- that is, you can be certain that he loves you, even though you don't see it. Jesus performed many miracles on earth. He changed water into wine ( John 2:1-11), fed five thousand with a few fish and loaves of bread ( Matthew 14:15-21), raised His friend Lazarus from the dead ( John 11:1-46), and many other signs and wonders not all of which were recorded. John said, of the miraculous things Jesus did:

Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ Jesus answered him, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.’” Luke 23:42-43 The first wine (mixed with myrrh) was designed to dull Jesus’ pain, to keep him from having to endure the cross with full consciousness. This wine he refused. And the second (sour) wine was given to keep him ‘conscious for as long as possible,’ and thus have the effect of prolonging his pain. This is the wine Jesus drank.” - David Mathis, desiringGod.orgthe Church often wonders about its mission. For years we’ve said the Church doesn’t have a mission but is God’s mission in the world – and then we struggle to articulate what that might mean for our life together! Many churches try and discern their work using the Five Marks of Mission (but forget what they are!) and these, oddly, don’t mention worship. Whatever else the Church does, worship is key to our life together. Worship gives us the energy to serve our communities, the strength to witness to our faith, the passion we need to evangelise – or at least it should! We are raised to life in Christ when we put our faith and belief in Him and His sacrifice on the cross; faith is a gift from the Holy Spirit made possible by Christ. By accepting His gift of salvation, we are free from sin! Though we will still struggle with it and remain sinners on this earth, we begin the process of sanctification in Christ throughout our lives here, and look forward to a full resurrection upon our death as we join our Savior for eternity. “Because of our connection to Jesus Christ, the one who died and rose from death, we can be confident that death will one day have no mastery over us.” - Steve Mathewson American Morning: A Conversation With Reverend Franklin Graham, CNN (December 16, 2005). Retrieved on December 29, 2009. It was out of love for us God sent His Son, and love that compelled Christ to accept the fate of the cross. His sacrificial love redefined the human understanding of the word. Love was the main focus of Jesus’ ministry on earth. He redefined acceptance, paying attention to those on the fringes of life. He healed beyond our human capacity to understand, and granted forgiveness for sins which had been deemed unforgivable. He left us with a new command: Subject Guide to Conservative and Libertarian Materials, in Manuscript Collections". University of Oregon. Archived from the original on June 23, 2012 . Isaiah 53 Bible Commentary - Matthew Henry (concise)". www.christianity.com . Retrieved November 11, 2023. This is our time on the history line of God. This is it. What will we do with the one deep exhale of God on this earth? For we are but a vapor and we have to make it count. We’re on. Direct us, Lord, and get us on our feet." - Beth Moore Jobs and careers are closely connected to other places where you can search for your identity, such as financial success and status. Paul says that we can grieve that they are no longer here and yet have hope that in Jesus they live in eternity. Note: “Men have taken upon themselves the responsibility of erecting a standard in harmony with their own ideas, and the law of Jehovah has been dishonored. This is why there is so great and wide-spread iniquity. This is why our days are becoming like the days of Noah and Lot.” The Review and Herald, May 2, 1893. Earlier on His journey to the cross, Jesus refused to accept a drink that would dull the pain. But now, in His final moments, He takes the drink of a commoner, from the branch of a hyssop plant which is used for Passover.
