About this deal

What was to be the greatest highlights in the season was again the near perfect record v Sevco. Celtic scored an aggregate of 14-2 v Sevco, including a 4-0 victory in the Scottish Cup and a 5-0 victory at home. There was a nil nil match at New Year’s which gave delusionists at Ibrox a belief that the gap was closing (it wasn’t), but really it was a blip. The most incredible victory was a 3-2 victory over Sevco at Ibrox in the league, where Celtic incredibly came from behind twice to win despite being a man down (red card). The goals came from across the first team, and if one victory best reflected Rodgers tactical philosophy then it was this game. He made errors (in defence) but when the chips were down he changed things which led to an unexpected victory. Udinese 0 Liverpool 1". The Telegraph. 6 December 2012. Archived from the original on 12 June 2020 . Retrieved 7 December 2012. Cate McCurry (13 February 2017). "My upbringing helped make me the manager I am, says Celtic boss Rodgers". Belfast Telegraph. Archived from the original on 1 March 2019 . Retrieved 28 February 2019. Rodgers separated from his wife, Susan, in the summer of 2014; the couple divorced in December 2015. They have two children – a son, Anton, also a footballer, [134] and a daughter, Mischa. [5] Rodgers got engaged to Charlotte Searle in February 2016, [135] and they married in June 2017. [136] He is a boyhood Celtic fan. [137] On 6 March 2019, thieves broke into his home in Glasgow, stealing family possessions and medals he won at Celtic. [138]

The former defender continued his involvement with non-league clubs Newport County, Witney Town and the now-defunct Newbury Town, while staying on Reading's books as a coach and then academy director. Norwich City 2–3 Liverpool". BBC Sport. 20 April 2014. Archived from the original on 27 January 2019 . Retrieved 11 February 2018. Next came Liverpool, where the Rodgers legacy remains contested. To some, he was the alchemist who took a team with Jon Flanagan to the verge of a sensational Premier League title in 2013-14. To others, he was a talented coach undone by his own hubris, who oversaw a gradual disintegration, made needless enemies and left one embarrassing documentary and no trophies.

If money talks Watford's Brendan Rodgers going to Reading is a done deal' ". Watford Observer. 13 May 2009. Archived from the original on 15 May 2009 . Retrieved 29 December 2009. It could be argued that Brendan Rodgers had taken Celtic as far as he could, with domestic dominance and involvement in the Champions League. The set-up in the European Cup and increasingly in the Europa League was now shutting out clubs in the smaller leagues. At his best, he helped give his teams a belief, purpose and conviction, and that was proven in the results and silverware. Some of his transfers were inspired, such as Mousa Dembele and Scott Sinclair, who were stellar and owe Rodgers so much, and also there were a number of fine loan moves. Rodgers was a big Owls fan". John Litster and Scottish Football Historian magazine. 2018.

Ironically, he soon after ended up in competition with Ange Postecoglu, then the Celtic manager, for the coveted & lucrative managerial vacancy at Spurs. He lost out to Ange Postecoglu! Overall, the Rodgers era was a golden period and must be seen in light of the tenures of some previous incumbents (such as Deila). There was progress, immense achievements and entertainment, and for supporters that’s what is wanted. The successors were going to be handed an upgrade on what Rodgers himself had been given, albeit a lot of changes at Celtic were still needed as many players & loanees were to leave in the summer coming. a b "Brendan Rodger's voyage: From hills of Antrim to Anfield". Irish Independent. 5 April 2014. Archived from the original on 30 November 2020 . Retrieved 8 April 2014. Norwich 2 – 5 Liverpool". BBC Sport. 29 September 2012. Archived from the original on 1 October 2012 . Retrieved 29 September 2012.Liverpool ended the next campaign in sixth and Rodgers departed Anfield during the 2015/16 season with the club in 10th. Rodgers' next club was Celtic, whom he guided to two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups. The determination and drive that's shaped his career comes from their memory but not necessarily from their genes.

Boss Brendan Rodgers leaves Reading by mutual consent". BBC Sport. 17 December 2009. Archived from the original on 30 January 2010 . Retrieved 29 December 2009. On 31 December 2016, Rodgers became the first manager in Celtic history to win his opening three games against Rangers. This victory meant Celtic went 19 points clear, with a game in hand, in the 2016–17 Scottish Premiership table. It also secured Celtic their 5th consecutive league victory, 58 points from a possible 60, and stretched their unbeaten run in domestic football to 24 games. [86] Again, history was repeating itself as Liverpool fans had complained that Rodgers couldn’t handle defences, and it showed very much so in European games, and increasingly over Rodgers second & third seasons domestically. Bringing in Toure worked well in the first season as a player, but seems to have not worked out well when he became the defensive coach. It led to the slide in the teams’ performances and results over the final season, but in fairness Celtic domestically did recover. Celtic were in partial retreat when he arrived, the Ronnie Deila era had not worked out, and the squad seemed to be underperforming. Rodgers came in, and from the start he revitalised the entire First Team, and was ruthless with underperformers.

Liverpool are in very good hands with Brendan Rodgers. The way he coached us during my time there was impressive and I am sure that the methods I enjoyed and found so effective will continue to be employed. Everything Brendan does is built towards perfecting the mechanics of football and making adjustments for the next game or to fulfil a particular objective. Although there weren’t any specific instructions to begin with, I knew that as soon as I got into training on Tuesday all the exercises were conditioned by the game the following weekend. It might be a small exercise where we couldn’t yet see what he was working towards, but it was always building towards the match. On 2 August 2012, Rodgers oversaw his first competitive game as Liverpool manager, a 1–0 win in the UEFA Europa League against Belarusian club Gomel, and won his first home game in charge in the second leg one week later. [49] In his first league game as manager on 18 August, Liverpool lost 3–0 against West Brom at The Hawthorns. [50] His first win in the league came against Norwich City at Carrow Road, Liverpool winning 5–2. [51] On 31 October, Rodgers welcomed his former club Swansea to Anfield in the fourth round of the League Cup, a match Liverpool lost 3–1. [52] On 6 December, Liverpool defeated Udinese 1–0 away in the Europa League to qualify for the round of 32 as group winners. [53] It was starting to condition itself in terms of not having that pressure, so that was something that really made me sit up."
