About this deal

I have zwave valve controllers, these dont last 2 years. But I wonder how this works ? Do you need some usb adapter with a (long) cable to the valve to charge it ?

I added installation manual to name of boiler and got this manual the first move was select find and type in OpenTherm and it got a result, so it would seem you have a number of options. Hello Ericmark and thanks for replying. Unfortunately what I am looking for is how the motorised valves should be wired to the boiler/H1 Extension to make them open and close in sync with the programmed central heating periods/central heating pump. Unless they can be wired to behave like this, I will still end up in a situation where the DHW flows past the valves and warms the radiators. Hind sight Hive would have worked better than Nest as I can link Hive TRV heads to the wall thermostat, so I can set more than one rooms minimum temperature. Although Drayton Wiser TRV heads it seems are considered the best, but if I set up a perfect system the cost would never be repaid, so do need a compromise. But there are issues with it, the valve is not always detected, after a firmware upgrade it seems that cannot accept commands (as it needs to be paired)… so I am looking for alternatives, economical and that can be integrated with HA as easily as possible.May you give info about different brands, its communication system, software protocol and where they can work or not in an isolated lan? status of the window open functionality (activated when the temperature suddenly drops): open / closed Put the correct adaptor on the valve (most smart radiator valves come with adaptors for the most common valves) It seems it's a complete mess up, each make going their own way, OpenTherm seems the only thing they have adopted which allows some interchangeability.

Nest tells me how long it will burn for to reach the temperature set, but it can be wildly out as it depends if doors left open or closed, and of course temperature set on the MiHome Energenie TRV heads. Establishing these types of specific locations translates region to region environments going to be warmed up whenever demanded, economising electrical energy on the sectors which have been shut-off. This means you can remotely set the thermostat temperature, and it will turn the boiler on and off to maintain the temperature of the room it's placed in.

So what are the best options for zoned heating? Do you have to invest in an expensive smart thermostat and valves to be able to achieve this? On trying to connect energenie to Nest found altering on phone both changed together as they should, but a schedule change or turning dial it failed to alter the TRV head, so they are working stand alone just with same schedule set, so the eQ-3 could have done that, also eQ-3 bluetooth when used in the same room can be paired, that option is not found with energenie, not saying not there as they can use IFTTT which can allow all sorts like geofencing for example, but Nest geofencing and occupancy detection turns boiler off, so no real need for TRV to do it as well. Note: The last timeslot shall always be -24:00, otherwise a default temperature is used for this timeslot. Oh, and I replace the 2xAA batteries in my TRV's about once a year for those devices furthest from the controller (I don't have an extender on my Wiser network). Maybe once every couple of years for those closer to the controller. I have made mistakes with late mothers central heating, I looked as the spec and decided a Horstmann HRFS1 was a good option, it was programmable so I could set different temperatures through the day rather than simple on/off of the programmer, however it lost rf link, and left boiler running, unlike the Honeywell it did not have a fail safe.

Smart radiator valves are great if you want complete control and transparency over how much you're using your heating. For those who have a conventional boiler with an independent domestic hot water cylinder, the boiler temperature control strategy should be started at an increased temperature in comparison to the cylinder temperature settings, in any other case the hot water designed cylinder will not rise to the specified heat. Keep in mind that the TRV does NOT report the current temperature, only the requested, target, temperature. The Xiaomi Thermometer LYWSD03MMC makes a perfect combo for measuring the room temperature (~USD 4)

You can see how much you're heating Many smart heating apps allow you to monitor your energy use, making it easier to see where you could be saving money. Unlike manual thermostats, electronic thermostats have a scheduling feature which automatically lowers the temperature of individual radiators when programmed, regulating usage and enabling savings of up to 30% on heating bills. Much depends on the make and model of the gas boiler, it is all well and good saying the EPH thermostats can be set as master/slave so work with a number of hard wired motorised valves and OpenTherm, but if the boiler is not OpenTherm enabled that clearly will not work. Like the Mac computer which is very good, but does it's own thing and will not run third party software, so with Boilers we have Bosch which has not allowed third party thermostats to interface with it. Once configuration is complete and on subsequent boots the configured details are used for connection. If connection fails the application reverts to AP mode where the web interface is used to reconfigure. Developer notes A timeout has been added to BLE operations to attempt to prevent the 'freeze-up' experienced occasionally on previous versions. Compiling

Independent: We will tell you exactly what we think of a product and we would never recommend anything we wouldn't use ourselves. Following on from my smart electric radiator post, this post covers smart programmable radiator valves. Most press coverage and advertising focus on smart thermostats, which allow you to control your boiler via an app and, in some cases, set up various automation. Quite frequently, this coverage makes grand claims about how you will save money on heating. And I must admit that my Shelly plug S switches work very smooth, and are very easy to integrate into Node-RED. So I started searching for other useful Shelly devices, and I saw that they now have also wifi radiator valves in pre-sales.

About

By merely changing the TRV and environment to reduce heat, electric is preserved and not squandered. You preferably should select smart radiator valves compared to the standard UK versions. Now house 2, I moved house and new house had an oil boiler, and when I came to look, there was no thermostat in the main house and the programmer which should have allowed us to select DHW or CH once or twice a day seemed to do same what ever I did, and on investigation found I had to go down steps outside house into the flat underneath main house and plug in or unplug the pump. I realised the problem was three core and earth cable, but only two cores working, so I wanted to control both DHW and CH with two wires only, so I fitted Nest Gen 3, but not because it was a smart device, it was simply as could get all the control I wanted with just 2 wires. To be honest, if you were looking to fit out a whole house, I would be highly tempted to spend the money on a commercial, integrated system like the Wiser or Evohome. Both of which (and there may now be others) can be integrated to home automation systems. Both of which come with "proper" boiler controllers that work in sync with the TRV's to get the best out of the whole system. They are generally really easy to fit, especially if you already have a standard controller wall plate for your existing boiler controls. In my case (with the Wiser), it was litterally a case of unclipping the old controller and clipping the new one in place.
