About this deal

Leonard says, "Mmm, in my family, holidays weren’t so much celebrated as studied for their anthropological and psychological implications on human society." Likewise, his birthdays weren't celebrated either, as revealed in " The Peanut Reaction" (S1E16). Sheldon frequently mentions/brags about owning the napkin in future episodes, most pointedly when Will Wheaton is around.

This episode aired in Canada on December 11, 2014, with 4,297 million viewers with a weekly ranking of #1. The A.V. Club reviewer Oliver Sara thought that the episode made Sheldon more sympathetic, while changing the dynamic between Raj and Stuart to something similar to Tobias Fünke and Michael Bluth from Arrested Development. He hoped that the writers would commit to answering the question finally on whether or not Raj is homosexual, and gave the episode an overall grade of "B". [5] IGN writer Jesse Schedeen enjoyed both halves of the episode, but felt that the girls' bar scenes needed more time. While he compared the use of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in the episode to "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" that of the series Community, he said the "results were characteristically brilliant", [6] but that the "D&D adventure was more of a loose framing device in this case". [6] He compared Sheldon's breakdown in the episode to that of Pierce Hawthorne in the Community episode, and thought that Sheldon's family revelation was dealt with in a silly manner rather than something "overly depressing". [6] He also enjoyed the beginnings of a new bond between Raj and Amy. He summarised the episode by saying "Season 6 has generally been underwhelming after a fairly strong start. This was the first episode in a while that I genuinely enjoyed without any real reservations." [6] Penny says that she'll put their presents under her tree. Sheldon is upset, stating that Penny is not giving him a present, rather an obligation. He must give her something of equal value based upon on her present and her perceived level of friendship. Sheldon ponders if obligations such as this are a contributing factor to the increased suicide rate during the holidays. Raj and Howard end up taking him to the mall. This is, by far, the only episode of the series where Raj does not have a speaking role, as he only appeared in one scene along with Howard, and as Penny and Beverly were in the room, he did not get a chance to talk; however, he does whisper in Howard's ear to communicate. It is difficult to give him dialogue if the only scene he is in includes women and he can't speak in front of them. The ninth season of The Big Bang Theory was released on DVD and Blu-ray today in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The three-disc DVD and two-disc Blu-ray sets contain all twenty-four episodes from The Big Bang Theory's latest season along with new bonus features. If you’re like me and miss the series, then the holidays are the perfect time to sit down and rewatch the show! But if you’re busy and don’t have time, then you can at least celebrate the season with the comedy’s Christmas episodes! How to watch The Big Bang Theory Christmas episodes

In the fan-favorite " The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis", Penny starts dating a handsome colleague of Leonard's, while Raj and Howard help find Sheldon a suitable Christmas gift for Penny. In this episode, Amy throws a Christmas party with a Victorian theme. Coincidentally, Amy's actress, Mayim Bialik, also had a wedding ceremony with a Victorian theme.

Bernadette and Sheldon arrive at the mall in search of a gift to ruin Amy's Christmas. Bernadette says Howard's best gifts were inspired by what Howard knew about her. Sheldon knows Amy likes Chaucer, medieval literature and old French movies, and he likes the way her fingers dance around whenever she hears harp music. Sheldon admits he really does love Amy - and wants to find a gift to make her feel small and worthless. In Amy's apartment, Dr. Koothrappali wins the ball of wool game. When Dr. Koothrappali remembers the theme parties his wife used to throw, Penny suggests that's where Raj gets his interest in being a host. Penny asks Dr. Koothrappali how much he talks about Star Trek. The actor who plays him (Brian George) actually was on Star Trek; he played Dr. Bashir's father on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Sheldon Cooper: (very excited) Do you realize what this means? All I need is a healthy ovum and I can grow my own Leonard Nimoy! This episode marks the first scientific collaboration between Leonard and Howard at Caltech, showcasing the former's expertise in astroparticle physics and the latter's expertise in astronomical instrumentation. Together, they built a Multi-wire chamber|multiwire proportional counter for detecting Cosmic ray|cosmic particles. Leonard marvels at how their multiwire-type detector can replace an entire Cherenkov Telescope Array|array of giant IACT|Cherenkov telescopes.

IGN's James Chamberlain called the entire episode good, while calling the end "golden", saying "...the end was nearly perfect." [4] There are a few scenes in this episode where Beverly is seen with her glasses off (whereas she wears sunglasses in the car scene at the end of this episode): Leonard goes over to Penny’s finding her drinking rum and eggnog minus the eggnog. He demands an answer to why Penny is suddenly dating someone smarter than himself when she thought he was too smart for her, the very thing that broke them up at the beginning of the season. Penny bursts into tears wondering why he was yelling at her. Leonard immediately retreats and tries to find out what's wrong. She says that David is an idiot because he should have taken the nude photos of his wife off his cell phone before taking nude photos of his girlfriend. Leonard asked about the nude pictures to which Penny responded, “THAT'S what you got from that? The guy is married!" Penny also asks that if he is 'perfectly happy' with the way things are, then why is he jealous. Leonard apologizes and asks her to give him this one since it is Christmas. They end up cuddling. She relents and wishes him a Merry Christmas. Then Leonard brings up that his leg is still in pain. At the university, Sheldon is educating the guys that Superman cleans his uniform by flying into the sun. Howard questions what happens if he gets something Kryptonian on it. Sheldon is pretty sure that all Kryptonian condiments were destroyed when Krypton exploded. Leonard points out that Superman's sweat is also Kryptonian, and Howard laments over what to do about Kryptonian pit stains. Sheldon counters that Superman doesn't sweat on Earth, and could always wash his clothes while visiting the shrunken Kryptonian city of Kandor, where he has no superpowers and his clothing wouldn't either. The scene of Bernadette and Sheldon at the shopping mall) Bernadette: What about that sweater? Sheldon: No, it’s not good enough. It has to be perfect. Bernadette: (informs him crossly) I think the nicest gifts I’ve got from Howie show how well he knows me. Sheldon: Hmm. Let’s see, what do I know about Amy? She loves medieval literature, Chaucer’s her favorite. And her eyes sparkle when she watches old French movies. I enjoy how harp music causes her fingers to dance as if she’s playing along. Bernadette: (with a low smile) Wow, you really do love her. Sheldon: I do. Now, let’s find the kind of gift that makes her feel small and worthless. (Sheldon now walks out of view)
