About this deal

Features of tunnel tents: easy pitching; spacious; often heavier than alternatives; OK in moderate wind – the bigger the tent, the less stable it is. Dome tents At What’s The Best, we’re big on getting outdoors. Among our team, we have pretty much every outdoor activity covered, from wild camping and hill walking, to kayaking, paddleboarding, climbing and mountain biking. Our team’s pursuit of adventure means that, yes, we spend a lot of our time in tents. All the poles are obviously colour coded and easy to feed into the meshed pole sleeves and locate in each of the ‘lugs’ nice and secure, with individual tensioning straps available all the way around. Once up, it’s just a case of pegging down all the guy lines and it’s game on. The head height on this tent is good, although there isn’t anywhere at the inner door end to hang a light (Berghaus sort this out), but there is a lantern attachment at the foot/narrow end. It's very common for manufacturers to be generous about the number of people they say can fit inside their tents. The number they give will be technically true, but it probably won't account for the space needed for campers' belongings, or the space people need for a comfortable night's sleep.

You'll want to ensure your tent footprint is the same size as the tent you're pitching – several manufacturers sell footprints specifically to fit certain tent models.

Is there a warranty period included?

An optional awning or canopy can provide protection from the sun and rain, creating a shaded area from which to enjoy the outdoors without having to stay inside your tent. 10) Extra features Seasonality: Most tents are three-season for use during spring, summer and autumn - when most people camp. However, for winter camping, there are four-season tents available. Four-season tents are very sturdy and intense weather - they also are considered specialist equipment and have a high price tag. to 4,000mm: Excellent water resistance. Suitable for heavy rain and more challenging weather conditions. It offers increased protection and reliability. We can’t comment as to how it copes in the wind as in this occasion there wasn’t any, not even a breeze. That didn’t stop me putting the guy ropes out just in case any turned up overnight.

In the initial test of this tent, the winds were very high. 30mph sustained, 50mph gusts kind of high. But the Berghaus Cairngorm 3 matched the performance I’ve witnessed tents costing 4 times as much. Short of a slightly bent pole and many a snapped guy line (more on that later), the tent held up well to the wind and even better against the rain. Which is more than can be said of our ability to sleep that night. How is the room inside this tent? Our camping party consisted of 2 adults and 2 dogs. They slept at our feet where the tent narrows. We slept with our heads nearest the door. We both used thermally insulated mats next to each other and there was adequate room. A vestibule is an enclosed area typically located outside the main sleeping area. It provides extra space for storing gear, muddy boots, or cooking in poor weather, keeping the main tent clean and organised. It’s sometimes called a porch. FULLY WATERPROOF - This berghaus tent has a 3000mm HH fly sheet, with fully taped seams, withstands the heavy rain, snow and winds and the sewn in groundsheet keeps out draughts and insects and gives you get full protection from groundwater Tent footprints are available to buy separately from tents at outdoor retailers. They're essentially an extra groundsheet that you can pitch before your tent, with the aim of pitching your tent on top of it.

Where to buy for the cheapest price?

The tent comes in a spacious bag, yet it is still lightweight and is no hassle to carry. There are extra pegs for securing an additional ground mat, and it is easy to manoeuvre if you want to move the tent to a different location. I would recommend getting a ground mat as the tent's base may need extra protection, especially when camping in unpredictable weather. Putting a tarpaulin down will offer you more protection for the ground and save you from potentially waking up damp. Mrs TentLife was suffering with her cold knees (it was -2), she had her tiny water bottle so I dutifully filled it up with hot snow so we could get cosy for the evening.

When buying 1 – 2 Person Tents, the quality of the product is going to be one of the factors that you really scrutinise before you commit to buying. So what can we say about our little Cairngorm 2 tent adventure? The tent itself was up in no time, which was clearly a bonus on this occasion as it was very cold and getting dark. We wanted to be pitched up fast and settled into our sleeping bags. We had only pitched this tent once previously, just to get a feel for how it went together se we were by no means experts. It goes up without any hassle. It is a simple and straight forward design, with nothing complicated about it.

So, now the scope is set, I introduce the Berghaus Cairngorm 3. This 3 man tent is Semi-Geodesic in shape, supposedly better at providing ‘useable’ space, and to the more discerning eye, makes it look pretty damn cool.

Price – as you’d expect the price of a product can be an instantly recognisable factor on what sort of quality you can expect. Whoever came up with the phrase “you get what you pay for” pretty much hit the nail on the head. Whilst it’s not always the case and there are many bargains to be had, you can as a general rule, expect the higher priced products to offer better quality than a the cheapest option. We’ll dive into the price of Berghaus Cheviot 2 Tent in more detail in a moment.

What should I consider when buying a tent?

Another factor that can be a great indication of product quality is the brand. Brands like Berghaus are of course extremely well known, especially for 1 – 2 Person Tents. We consider how easy it is to get into and out of the main entrances and sleeping compartments, how bright and roomy the living spaces are, and if we consider there to be enough room for the number of people intended to sleep in the tent. There’s so much information available online when we’re shopping now, that it’s easy to find lots of detail about products like Berghaus Cheviot 2 Tent. This is of course really helpful, but there’s almost too much information available, so it’s important to know exactly what you’re looking for. There are however some methods that you can use to determine a product’s quality without needing to physically have it.
