Chad from the Horror Movie BBQ was super cool in allowing us to use his Batcave photos for this article. Chad also writes really fun articles about all the memorabilia I grew up collecting. I'm going to spotlight this article -- Essential Batman 89 Merchandise -- because it fits with today's theme. UPDATED 6/23/22: Batman ’89 was released June 23, 1989. Perfect time to re-present this piece from 2019’s BATMAN ’89 WEEK. Dig it. — Dan The Deluxe Version offers a highly-detailed diorama base, showing a corner of the ruined church roof with a spinnable sculpted statue also stones in incredible texture and detail, which allows fans to revisit the scene with Batman standing perched on the edge of the roof. Michael Keaton’s return to the role of Batman in The Flash movie gave chills to DC fans! Expanding on the current Bat collection, Hot Toys is introducing a brand new 1/6th scale Batman collectible figure based on Tim Burton’s Batman (1989). Kenner Dark Knight Collection Bruce Wayne Batman.Hands down my favorite figure in the Dark Knight Collection line. The likeness of Michael Keaton is still the best unmasked sculpt produced to date. Sure, the armor looks a bit clunky when in use, but there’s no denying the cool factor of putting the chest armor, gloves, boots and cape and cowl onto this figure. He looks fantastic just holding the cowl as well. Despite the fan outcry that followed his casting, Keaton’s nuanced, and damaged Batman has endured, and reached a new level of appreciation among many fans. With our beloved Adam West gone, he is to many the living embodiment of the Dark Knight of our youth. And who wouldn’t love to see him play Bruce Wayne once more in a Batman Beyond film? One of the reasons why Nicholson stole the scene from his Batman co-star Michael Keaton was a treasure trove of endlessly repeatable Joker quotes that continue to stand the test of time. Few film versions were as chatty as Burton's, and because of that, the debate will continue to rage on as to who the best Joker was. Tim Burton’s movie spin on the story of fan-favorite Batman released in 1989 is iconic to a generation of Dark Knight fans. It starred Michael Keaton as the multimillionaire Bruce Wayne, who has transformed himself into the crime-fighting Batman after witnessing his parents’ brutal murder as a child. well, not really,... but it does make me want to reminisce about it. Namely, those very cool Batman action figures released by Toy Biz in 1989: Gotham City is swarming with crime and only one man can stop it – the Batman. Starring the renowned actor Michael Keaton as the nocturnal crime-fighter, Tim Burton’s 1989 take on Batman movie which brought the Caped Crusader into the theatre was a huge hit and still stands the test of time.

One (1) newly developed Batman head with separate rolling eyeball function and three (3) interchangeable faces capturing Batman’s facial expressions I'm pretty sure that some of the unsourced images in this article came from Figure Realm, so I'm just going to give them a shout out, regardless. They have a neat section on the Toy Biz Batman toy line. Meticulous and faithful recreation of Micheal Keaton’s remarkable appearance as Batman in the movie, the highly-detailed 1/6th scale figure features a newly developed Batman head with separate rolling eyeballs and interchangeable lower faces techniques design; a specialized body highlighting Batman’s muscular form; the newly designed Batsuit to mimic the material appearance; unique Bat gadgets including grapple gun, gauntlet with line launcher, rope attached batarang, ninja wheels, smoke capsules; also accessories including a white heel shoe, Batmobile remote, bomb timer, punch gear, and a display base. And DC fans are now close to meeting Michael Keaton’s Batman again in The Flash movie, in which he’s trying to save the colliding worlds with Barry Allen! Hot Toys is excited to present the Batman (Deluxe Version) Sixth Scale Figure with a diorama base covering various ways to display for an added storytelling element. Toy Biz Batman Batmobile.Toy Biz’s Batmobile is a pretty solid depiction of the Anton Furst-designed car…minus the roof, unfortunately. No doubt left off to accommodate Batman’s ears and the gear shift that shot missiles from under the machine-gun hoods. The convertible design makes it an odd hybrid of the ’80s and ’60s Batmobiles. Later releases of the car came with the armored cocoon seen in the film, so I wish I’d held out a bit on this one! It's thirty-plus years later and you're thinking of collecting this toy line for nostalgia's sake? Well, your best bet is to try to get them carded or CIB (complete in box) which is still a realistic and achievable goal. If you're buying this collection as loose figs and vehicles (which is significantly cheaper), keep in mind that the figs came with a lot of little accessories that were easy to lose and the vehicles all had attachments that kept falling off. (To date, I've never seen a loose Bob the Goon with his hat included. The hat always seems to be the first thing to get lost.) The vehicles are frequently missing the missiles, and a Batwing with an attached canopy is a rarity. If you see Batman with his original cape, functioning utility belt/batrope, batarang & grappling gun (for a reasonable price), grab it because that's as good as it gets. Kenner Action Catalogs, which typically came with large vehicles and playsets, revealed what could have been for the second series of The Dark Knight Collection. While the Batcave Command Center, Gotham Dragster, and Jokermobile didn't make it to shelves in fall of 1991, many of them were retooled to be included in later Batman collections like Batman: The Animated Series. Nevertheless, The Dark Knight Collection dazzled many young fans with its dark yet exciting array of figures, vehicles, and accessories and set Batman figure standards for many years to come.
