About this deal

I also tested the MXN10 as a digital streaming bridge, feeding its coaxial output into my Topping D90LE DAC. Naturally in this configuration the MXN10 imparts no sonic signature of its own as any good digital bridge should. I’d like to see the aforementioned USB output facility to maximise the data resolutions I can send to the DAC, but the coaxial output easily handled 24/bit, 192kHz FLAC with no problem and sounded exactly as I would expect. With UPnP (Universal Plug n' Play) compatibility it's easy to connect this versatile player to your home network and stream from your NAS drive, hard drive, PC or laptop. The AXN10 accepts a wide range of files, including many Hi Res formats. ALAC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, DSD512, WMA, MP3, AAC, HE AAC, AAC+ and OGG Vorbis are all supported, making this a highly flexible streamer.

The app is excellent. There are a couple of general bugs here and there, and a few accessibility bugs that need to be ironed out, but it’s a solid, dependable app. With the exception, perhaps, of Yamaha’s MusicCast, and Arylic’s 4Stream as a noteworthy runner up, it’s the best streamer control app in the industry by a country mile. Max Richter’s melancholic slow-builder Never Goodbye is delivered in a spacious and well-organised manner. The MXN10 walks a carefully chosen path between the even-handed, detailed and spacious sound of the similarly-priced Audiolab 6000N Play and the more characterful and energetic balance of the current Award-winning Bluesound Node (2021). It combines the strengths of these talented rivals while adding a dose of dynamic expression and rhythmic coherence that they can’t match. Having a small one-stop-shop streamer to connect up all the old hardware is a dream I have had for a long time, as my parents' house is a treasure trove of vintage hi-fi kit screaming for a second lease of life. The front of the MXN10 is minimal (or virtually featureless if you prefer). There’s a power button, and four similarly sized buttons giving access to four presets – these can be radio stations, playlists, or what-have-you. With the introduction of two new network streamers – the AXN10 and MXN10 – Cambridge Audio is turning up the heat on entry-level streaming territory already occupied by Bluesound, Wiim and NAD. However, the incoming Cambridge models offer a different set of streaming possibilities to each of their rivals.

Bluetooth is onboard, version 5.0 A2DP/AVRCP, supporting SBC and AAC. Sadly there is no AptX or AptX HD support which is a shame, you have to shell out for the Cambridge DACMagic 200M for AptX. The Bluetooth implementation is as a receiver only, you cannot transmit to Bluetooth headphones or speakers from the AXN10 or MXN10. As we have seen in our That Was Then... Rotel RA820BX (1984) feature, which looked at how the iconic amplifier performs by today’s standards, there’s still plenty of life in a lot of older kit. Cambridge Audio’s recent work in the realm of amplifiers and streamers has been little short of stellar, impressing us with the Award-winning CXA81 integrated amp in addition to the (also) Award-winning CXA61 amp and the ( also) award-winning CXN (V2) streamer. Expectations have been set mighty high for the MXN10, even at this relatively low price. If you’re adding a network streamer to your hi-fi system, then the Cambridge Audio AXN10 is a great place to start. The slimline casing fits in with most existing hi-fis, especially if you already have a Cambridge Audio AX series system. Award-winning control comes via the StreamMagic platform, while class-leading sound quality is guaranteed by the powerful ESS Sabre DAC and Cambridge Audio electronics knowhow. Control mostly happens using the fourth generation of Cambridge Audio’s StreamMagic control app. Here’s where you get access to internet radio, Spotify Connect, Deezer, Qobuz and TIDAL Connect. Chromecast and Apple Airplay 2 are built in, and the MXN10 is both Roon Ready and UPnP-compatible.

Which means it’s ideal for use either in a full-on hi-fi system, say, or as a source for a wireless speaker. Aside from mains power, it seems likely only one of its outputs will require any cabling – so no matter where it’s positioned, it’s unlikely to disrupt your feng shui.Road To Perfection – Cambridge Audio recently dropped quite a bombshell. Not in the literal sense, of course, but the newly presented Evo 150 simply has it all and could (r)evolutionize many a living room. STEREO reports to you with the exclusive, worldwide first review! With Internet Radio, built-in, the AXN10 moves radio to the next dimension. Thanks to its MPEG-DASH support and, of course, the top quality audio electronics, radio often sounds several notches better than DAB. What’s more, the copious choice of radio stations, worldwide, leaves traditional FM and DAB radio floundering to compete. You needn’t worry about accessing your favourite stations (or playlists), either. Thanks to four presets on the facia, station recall is as simple as it gets. Internet Radio: You can choose from over 20,000 Internet Radio stations on your AXN10, including local, national, and international stations, and special interest stations. The network audio player features MPEG-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP), which enables higher audio quality with less buffering by adapting to the available bandwidth. The StreamMagic app is as comprehensive as you have a right to expect for this sort of product and runs in a very stable way. Roon functionality is offered, plus all the usual suspects for streaming, such as Spotify Connect, Tidal, Quobuz and Deezer, and Chromecast for easy Airplaying. Overall, this box does pretty much everything that most people will need – unless they’re paying high end prices. Of course, I am not suggesting it's good enough to replace my own dCS Network Bridge streamer and Chord DAVE DAC and M-Scaler, but still, I couldn't help but think that it is very well designed for the money. I got a large and powerful sound from the last movement of Hayden's 88th Symphony( Berlin Philharmonic, Sir Simon Rattle). There was a surprising amount of detail, with a decently strong bass – and the AXN10 certainly didn't disgrace itself.

Roon Core is media server software that runs on your computer, NAS drive, or other compatible hardware When put up against a peer competitor like the Bluesound Node 2i, I found the AXN10 slightly more detailed in how it digs into the recorded acoustic and reproduces everything inside. On the other hand, the former has a fractionally fuller tonality, but whether this is better depends on individual taste or the system it will be used in. The main thing is that the Cambridge Audio is expansive and detailed enough to make any kind of music enjoyable. We're excited to see the AXN10 — and it's sibling, the MXN10, which has all the same specs but in a compact chassis — in Cambridge Audio's carefully developed line of streaming network music players. It's got a fantastic high-res DAC, super-flexible streaming options, and great Cambridgesound. High-resolution DAC

The MXN10 is very 2023 in that it conspires to do a fair amount without looking like it does much at all. It’s built around a 4 th Both new Cambridge streamers are scheduled to be available in March*, each coming in the "Lunar Grey" finish. Cambridge's smaller MXN10 Audio is stated to cost around €500*, while the larger AXN10 is stated to cost around €600*.

Something that is slightly odd is that, having introduced MQA on the DacMagic 200M, it’s not present here but, depending on what services you use, it almost certainly won’t matter. The AXN10 also supports Chromecast-built-in and Apple AirPlay 2 for easy access to even more streaming content. And built-in Bluetooth gives friends and family an easy way to connect wirelessly and play music using a compatible smartphone, tablet, or computer. The smaller model is the MXN10, which offers the same features and functionality as the bigger AXN10 but in a smaller for factor. This is a network player for those after a “discreet and easy” way of adding streaming capabilities to their existing hi-fi system. Outputs: The AXN10 outputs audio at a fixed volume level, so you'll need to control the volume via your connected amplifier or pre-amplifier. The three audio outputs remain active at all times, and you can use the outputs one at a time, or all at once simultaneously. The AXN10 includes one analog and two digital outputs:
