About this deal

Most sterilization cycles are short, but some have built-in dryers that can take longer. If you use a single-bottle sterilizer, sterilization time is longer if you’re cleaning multiple pieces and switching them out between cycles. Typically, sterilization takes anywhere from a few minutes to 12 minutes, while drying cycles can take an additional 30 to 60 minutes. To save on cleaning time, we recommend a bottle sterilizer and dryer, like the Baby Brezza Baby Bottle Sterilizer and Dryer Machine, so you don’t have to wait for air drying. Both units are BPA free and boast the same claims of 99.9% effectiveness at removing bacteria. The Philips unit has most customisation for a variety of needs and the holders for bottle caps and teats means no more caps being cascaded over the kitchen floor as you try to pull one out in the middle of the night while blurry eyed. This electric Baby Brezza bottle sterilizer holds up to six bottles of different shapes and sizes, plus accessories and pump parts. We appreciate the stainless steel heating plate to protect against water or rust build-up regardless of how often you use it. However, it's hard to reach for cleaning purposes. On the plus side, the bottle sterilizer is impressively quiet. After it finishes sterilizing in eight minutes, it automatically switches to drying mode and shuts off in just one easy step.

We appreciate the clear instructions that are easy to follow, like putting water into the base at the “MAX” line and putting the steam plate on top. There’s even a light beeping sound to alert you when the bottle is done warming, but it’s not loud enough to disturb a sleeping baby.

To find the best bottle sterilizers, we spoke with Tomomi Hayashi, MD, and Arunima Agarwal, MD, about what to look for in bottle sterilizers, warmers, and dryers. Moreover, reviewed guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Texas Children’s Hospital, and the CDC on the importance of sterilizing bottles. With this guidance in mind, we researched dozens of top-rated bottle sterilizers on the market and considered their design, safety features, and value. We then narrowed our list to 20 bottle warmers, including some bottle warmer and sterilizer combos, and put them through multiple tests at the Verywell Testing Lab in New York City with the help of Ebony Barrett, PNP. We filled baby bottles of various sizes and shapes with milk and turned on the warmers, noting how long it took to prepare the bottle warmer and sterilizers for use. Parenting editors set a timer on their phones to determine the timing of the warming process. After the warming cycles, we carefully removed bottles, swirling milk to ensure warming was evenly distributed. Next, we tested the temperature of the milk by lightly pouring it on the inside of the wrist. Moreover, we used a liquid thermometer to measure the temperature of the milk. Lastly, we unplugged each unit, waited for it to cool down, and cleaned them according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Ease of use, Ease of clean/descale, Clever Design, Flexibility, Build Quality and Overall Energy Use. To select the best bottle sterilizers, we spoke with Tomomi Hayashi, MD, a California-based board-certified pediatrician, and Arunima Agarwal, MD, a New York-based board-certified pediatrician to find out what to look for in a bottle sterilizer and the benefits of bottle sterilization. We also reviewed guidance from the AAP, the CDC, and Texas Children's Hospital, on why it’s important to sterilize baby bottles. Moreover, we also put 20 bottle warmers, including some bottle warmer and sterilizer combos, through multiple tests at the Verywell Testing Lab in New York City with the help of Ebony Barrett, PNP.

One of the most essential features of a bottle sterilizer is bottle compatibility, Dr. Hayashi recommends. Consider what types of bottles the sterilizer allows, whether shape, size, or material, and if you have to accommodate a lid for sterilization. Some bottle sterilizers don’t allow glass, Dr. Hayashi explains, such as the GROWNSY 9-in-1 Bottle Warmer, while others struggle to close properly with tall baby bottles. The Philips unit boasted a six minute cycle with auto shut off, for us this varied between 6-8 minutes. We’d like to say it was down to variations in the amount of water add manually by us, but we monitored it with the same liquid quantity and it still varied by up to a minute. Although, this variation doesn’t make too much difference the kwh’s do add up on an energy bill. It was also hotter to handle, for longer, after finishing. This meant when we needed a bottle in a hurry a safe grip on the unit was essential. The Philips unit had a safe handle grip which keeps cooler for handling, a big plus compared to the Tommee Tippee steriliser ‘s bare heated plastic.
