About this deal

While homeopathic preparations of arnica (correctly manufactured) are unlikely to cause side effects, (1) there’s no scientific evidence that they work and (2) because it’s an unregulated substance, you can’t be sure that the product you’re using is safe. Who shouldn’t take arnica? That means our understanding of arnica is stitched together based on what we know about its various components and how they behave. It’s an imperfect understanding, but it’s a start. Lokken, P., Straumsheim, P. A., Tveiten, D., Skjelbred, P., and Borchgrevink, C. F. Vegan lip balms don’t have to be boring either. You can still add a lovely tint to them by using dried raspberry, clay or beetroot powder to create a hint of blush.

Taking arnica in amounts more than what is found in food is likely unsafe. In fact, arnica is considered poisonous. When taken by mouth it can cause vomiting, heart damage, organ failure, increased bleeding, coma, and death. As Dr. Price states, “Oral formulations tend to be riskier. I don’t advise my patients to take those because there’s a lot more risk involved. You can combine this with coconut oil to give your lips nourishment, and you can increase the shininess of the balm by increasing the amount of coconut oil. Gaertner K, Baumgartner S, Walach H. Is homeopathic arnica effective for postoperative recovery? A meta-analysis of placebo-controlled and active comparator Trials. Front Surg 2021;8:680930. View abstract. It’s similarly important to avoid arnica if you’re taking a blood thinner like heparin because the herb can further thin your blood. Oils such as carrot seed can offer a small amount of skin protection, vitamin E helps with healthy-aging, chamomile soothes, and almond oil replenishes moisture. When it comes to deciding if arnica is the right choice for you, it’s important to think of it like you would any other anti-inflammatory or pain medicine. It’s not right for everybody and can be dangerous if made or used improperly. Do not take arnica by mouth If you go shopping for arnica products, you may find them available in loose flower or tea form. While arnica is sometimes used to flavor food, it’s poisonous, and — according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) — not safe to consume in its pure form. In fact, some countries prohibit its use in food altogether. You have severe liver or kidney disease. Our liver and kidneys help us filter out waste and toxic substances. If yours aren’t performing as they should, for whatever reason, arnica probably isn’t a risk worth taking — at least, not without consulting with your liver doctor (hepatologist) or kidney doctor (nephrologist) first.
