About this deal

With a 6 percent ABV, this Polish beer first emerged in 1768. The lager is pretty affordable and gives you that authentic Polish taste. Another variant of the beer, called Prazubr, features a 5 percent ABV and an unpasteurized texture. Poland is known as one of the biggest beer producers in Europe, so it’s not surprising that they have an extensive range of brands and styles available to everyone. In Poland, the people call beer “ piwo,” but it isn’t as popular as outside the country. This is made by one of the three prominent Polish breweries, Okocim, under Carlsberg Polka. It is also among the first beers marketed and exported to the United States from Poland and is categorized as one of the best-selling beers in the world. The beer is well-known for its fizzy character and sweet initial taste.

The first thing to know is that beer is called piwo (pronounced pee-vo) in Poland. Poland is one of the largest producers of beer in Europe. Harnaś character is modeled on the title character of the iconic 1970’s TV series “Janosik”. The show is set in the early 19th century, where Janosik is the leader of a group of highlanders who helped the poor and fought the invaders (think – Polish Robin Hood). There’s also a herbal, earthy scent that brings to mind straw or grass. You can also sniff out an alcoholic scent that reminds you that the beer contains a whopping 5.6 percent alcohol content. The smell isn’t bad, although it doesn’t quite match the expectation you’d get from its appearance. Malt, corn, yeast, and an alcoholic tinge summarize the smell of this lager. – Mouthfeel

means bison, and this is certainly a buffalo of a beer. It’s brewed by Kompania Piwowarska under the stewardship of Japan’s Asahi Brewing. Don’t mix it up with the Czech Zubr – same name, different beer. You could call it ‘Zubr-with-a-dot’ to avoid confusion. There are multiple non-alcoholic versions of the Lech beer with different flavors such as lime, grapefruit, mint, acai, pomelo and pomegranate. It has a boozy character and pale appearance, with 41 calories in 100 ml. While the head does not offer good retention, the sweet beer has a light body and a combination of grain and honey in its aroma and taste. As a fan of good, high quality food, I should probably hate these mass-produced beers. But frankly, they don’t bother me at all. Mainstream domestic beers are widely available and more importantly – affordable. A leader on the Polish market (with 33.3% of Polish market share in 2017). Two best selling beer brands are Żubr (13.5% of the market in 2016) and Tyskie (8.7%). Despite the fact the brewing industry has existed in Poland since the Middle Ages, in previous years it was almost impossible to find a Polish pub with draught beer. Today this is a much different story, with most pubs having a variety of beers on tap, as well as bottled alternatives. Although vodka has always been considered the traditional alcoholic beverage, Poland also produces a fantastic selection of beers ranging from 2.5 to 9%. Most tend to be pale lagers, which are popular with the locals, as well as in other countries around the world.

In Poland drinking is a communal affair. Whether you are attending a special event like wedding or simply popping over to your family friend’s house for dinner, it is likely that there will be a crate of beers or two involved. People from Poland are often said to be able to handle their drink, which is a good job since some of their beers range up to whopping 9.5%! In the 1950s, the label was altered to draw the attention of American Polonia (Polish diaspora in the US), with references to folklore and regional traditions. In Grupa Żywiec, almost every other litre of beer is exported abroad. For now, let’s focus on the lighter sibling. This beer has an ABV of 6%. It’s a newer version of the original 1968 lager. Its squat brown 330ml bottle stands out on shelves. And it’s brewed by Van Pur. It’s a light-bodied beer with medium fizz and a thin head – roughly a quarter inch. One of the strong Polish beers out there, it features 16 percent alcohol content and is made with a freeze-distilled process, giving it a vivid appearance. Although it has a lot of alcohol, the taste is overshadowed by chocolate, bourbon, coconut, pralines, caramel and vanilla. The recipe behind this beer has been around for centuries, and it continues to appeal to those in and outside Poland. The name of this award-winning beer means hoppy, and it lives up to its name with its light, hop-forward flavor. It feels full-bodied and bitter on the palate, with a creamy and smooth taste from the carbonation. Zywiec Brewery, which had survived the World War II and the difficult post-war period, became one of Europe’s most modern beer-producing facilities in the 1990s. Full Range: Lech Pils (Pilsner, 5.5%), Lech Free (non-alcoholic), Lech Lite (pale lager, 3.5%), Lech Ice (various flavours, lager mixed with lemonade, 2%)
