Unfortunately it also puts consumers at the mercy of rights holders, who could and apparently will pull access if it doesn’t suit them.

Disney is offering an experience, and it’s one some people will no doubt be happy to pay for. I do not pretend to be blind to the film's flaws; nor do I necessarily put it into my list of top twenty films of all time. However, I do see it as having a vast impact both culturally in terms of the subject matter, and technologically in the film industry -- which will have its own broad cultural effect. It is certainly a film with far-reaching and varied significance. James Cameron confirmed that one of the three discs would contain a special feature on an environmental campaign in Brazil, A Message from Pandora. [5] Another disc contains the movie, with 16 minutes of finished, new material, and the other one more special features, including 45 minutes of unfinished material. In any case its all about the execution, and this film truly was, and is, revolutionary in terms of the technology and use of the technology. MORE IMPORTANTLY – the technology was in the service of the story, and not the other way around. Which is key to the films success.

The first Avatar was an event film, especially when watched in 3D, which experienced a resurgence in popularity thanks to James Cameron’s cutting-edge technology behind the amazing visuals. Starring Sam Worthington as a human that pilots a man-made avatar of the native Na’vi who then meets and falls in love with Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri, the two then try and stop the Resources Development Administration from obtaining a priceless metal called….unobtanium. Common consensus is that while the film was amazing to watch, the plot was a giant pile of sci-fi nonsense.
