What I really appreciated about the book is that while the authors offer charisma techniques here and there, it's always surrounded by practical advice and a core emphasis on developing one's character. Unlike books in the manosphere which encourage degrading women to compensate for feelings of inferiority, this book tells men to take responsibility for their inferiority and improve themselves. Unlike books which point to women as being the problem, this book tells men we are the ones creating the problem when we expect women to magically like us while at the same time being lazy, incompetent, unsanitary buffoons! Getting ahead isn’t always on a special characteristic but it’s becoming more pushed and that’s unfair to everyone who earns the merit the right way.

The point is," writes Underhill, "while men were busy doing other things, women were becoming a major social, cultural, and economic force." The two books offer divergent answers. In doing so, they clarify issues that the #MeToo movement exposed as urgent. These novels underscore the need to collectively restate our commitment to the most basic, yet still unfulfilled, goals of feminism: the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes. But while Women Talking offers a blueprint for a just future, Topics of Conversation reveals what is at stake if we lose sight of our objectives. Next to Toews’s impassioned reminder that women remain desperate for freedom from violence and for basic control over their lives, Popkey’s insistence on women’s desire for subjugation is misguided at best, and reactionary at worst. Easy out and easy escalation. If it’s bad, a way to go after an hour, but if it’s good a “next stop” to go to (e.g. dinner, dancing).I agreed on 98% but I’m still not in agreement with anyone on abortion after 19 weeks, or a contraceptive tool… but that’s a free choice and my right as a free citizen and female to think and feel that way. Only it stops there. Whelan doesn't examine the logical endpoint of her position. indeed she even laments the 20-week limit in some country or other. Be clear of what you want, make sure you're in the right place, get your shit together (health and basic wealth) and make sure you display the right signals. Confidence requires that you go through the anxiety of trying something like this long before you feel ready.
