About this deal

Rodgers has been featured in Time, Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fast Company, the Washington Post, on NBC News, and Cosmopolitan. I think Rodgers makes EXCELLENT points about why women having more money helps us all, and her conversational tone is relatable and her story is inspiring. If you are at a place in your financial journey where you need some cheerleading to believe you can do it, perhaps this is the read for you. There was some tangible advice, though I would have enjoyed this book more without the overplayed, cloying “girl boss” language. For a book that’s meant to empower women, it sure demeaned itself with all of the nonsensical “put on your sparkly tiara” and “grab your Chanel bag” crap. A more accurate summary would say “advice on taking better care of yourself, make common sense decisions, not running yourself ragged, listening to other people’s stories, and getting mad/depressed over social justicey sh*t all over again.” All of which are FINE subjects, but those books have been written before en masse, and are severely less compelling than what is advertised. I'm not an idiot, I know that reading one book won't make you a millionaire, but this is just another coachey fluff-fest in a whole sea of them, really. Delegate one task on your to-do list to someone (or something) else. Delegate to a family member, roommate, friend or an app like TaskRabbit. Clear something off your plate. Dog-walking, dinner-cooking, vacation-planning. Anything, big or small."

A job description and hiring process so you can hire your first personal assistant, and to-do lists so you can use their time wisely as soon as they’re hired.

Why most of the financial advice you’ve heard in the past (like “skip your daily latte to save money”) is absolute, patriarchal nonsense. Rachel started her career working on The Hill with nonprofits, federal judges, and iconic leaders including Hillary Clinton. When she realized that changing the world is a lot easier when you have some cash in your bank account, she decided to become wealthy and teach other women how to do the same.

Why earning more money is not “selfish” or “greedy” but in fact, a revolutionary act that brings the economy into balance and creates a better world for all. Nurse Sam came to my room and she made it all better. And I was so happy and I was like, “Yeah, I'm going to take a nap. I'm going to relax, and then tomorrow I'm going to slay the last day of my retreat.” Not so much. Fifteen minutes later, I kid you not – this is a true story – my husband calls me. He's at home with our three kids. And he's crying. And so he goes, and he talks to his colleague. And I see them poring over my accounts and bending over, looking at the screen. And I'm super embarrassed, and I'm thinking like, “Man, what kind of financial choices have I made over the last of couple weeks that they're looking at right now?” The basic premise is that women, and especially women of color, should have a million dollars in assets and/or earnings to build generational wealth. That's just a house, in many big cities of America. We KNOW that legislation will not save us from wealth inequality. Hello Seven is run by women, and primarily for women of color, however all gender identities are welcome.I'm working on becoming a genius at money, and have thus far felt most comfortable getting financial information from women, because, hello. I don't know about you, but I grew up with essentially no financial literacy education and have no evidence that men are particularly interested in women getting better at this. And yet, I want to tell you all a story about a time when my fate was in the hands of an old white guy. So, I had my fledgling solo law practice, and I had my first corporate client, and I was really feeling myself. And I had completed the work in October, and it was November, and I was waiting to get paid. The next time you think to yourself, for instance, “I’m no good with money,” be sure to follow that up by telling yourself, “I’m perfectly capable of becoming the smartest investor in the world!”

If you think you're not “good with money”, this book is for you. If you think you can't be a millionaire or make more than a set amount, this book is for you. If you think (or hope) someone else will take care of you and support you financially all your life, this book is for you. If you own a business, this book is for you. If you are an employee, this book is for you. If you are unemployed, underemployed or somewhere in between, this book is for you. If you think you're doing “okay” with money, this book is for you. If you are a woman of color, a white woman, an LBGTQ+, or anyone who feels marginalized especially around money, this book is for you. And here's the thing. You know, people always say to me, “Well, but I'm a special snowflake. And therefore, only I can do it. No one else can do the magic that I do.” So, in addition to being a special snowflake, you are a trapped snowflake. You are a tired snowflake. You are a miserable snowflake, because you work too much and you're exhausted. In passionate and powerful prose, Rachel sets forth a blueprint for determination, liberation and unapologetic self-love. We Should All Be Millionaires is a modern-day money Manifesta for those who are ready to reach for more.' We Should All Be Millionaires details a realistic, achievable, step-by-step path to creating the support, confidence, and plan you need to own your success and become the millionaire the world needs you to be. You need to deliver on a big promise. Say it with me. No punk promises, okay? Again, together, no punk promises! You can deliver on something bigger. Don't hide. Don't be scared to really go out there and show people what you can do, show people the transformation that you can create for them. So, make a very big promise and then deliver on it.

Summary:

We Should All Be Millionaires will forever change the way you think about money and your ability to earn it. This book, however, reeled me in close. I finished the entire audiobook in two days! I'm not a woman, so some of the content didn't apply to me directly, but the advice in this book felt genuine and applicable regardless. Usually, I feel alienated by "change your mindset and make more money" books, the ones overwhelmingly written by white people that are so out of touch that they genuinely think that with a power pose and some thriftiness, anyone can be rich and powerful! While Rodgers does have this message, she doesn't shy away from the reality of oppression that affects women, BIPOC, and queer people.
