Once at the studios we were welcomed into a holding room and given some light refreshments and I met the three other contestants and the standby. One possible answer is that people behave differently depending on whether they are by themselves or with other people or, similarly, whether they are at home or in public. Another answer is that people act differently depending on who they’re with; their behavior is different when they’re at a family function versus at a bar with their friends versus in a meeting with coworkers.

After being asked if they wish to be a standby contestant - a sort of reserve player, Emma writes that she only had to wait a week before the Tipping Point team got in touch to ask if she'd be a stand-in before, two days later, she was invited to film in Bristol. You literally run the game through exactly how it appears on our TV screens. We are not stopped at all and what we say is totally unscripted which means that as well as playing the game you have to be mindful of what you are saying and nothing gets a reshoot! We have been playing some great TV show board games recently and been having some excellent family fun (although they don’t stop us watching the shows and shouting answers at the television screen). After a Race Around the World, beating expert quizzers in The Chase and testing our word skills with LINGO, we were delighted to be trying out another game based on another one of our favourite tv game shows: Tipping Point.

You get a little more for your money when you enter online, including the chance to enter multiple times with a discounted rate. We were then taken into a large room where we all sat around a conference table. The question setters' pet subjects seem to be Harry Potter, fashion, and the royal family, which are only to be expected in an ITV daytime show, and more usually, technology companies. A Tipping Point drinking game would certainly need to assign some forfeit to any mention of Apple, Microsoft or Google. These are perfectly valid areas of knowledge, it's just unusual, and maybe a tad overdone, is all. The question setters also love ridiculously obscure Food and Drink questions - whenever that category comes up in the final round, expect a blind guess.

This was good as I didn’t have time to get nervous but I also had no time to prepare! The whole applying for a game show had taken less than a month at this point! If you are selected to compete in Tipping Point, the broadcaster states that you must be able to come to the studio to film and be ‘willing to release yourself from family and/or work commitments on request from the producer on a specified date’.
