About this deal

Bevedan is the one to explain to Zabriel that on Caliban, the Fallen forces were the ones to open fire and initiate the battle that destroyed their homeworld.

Over at Warhammer Community, our coverage of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 continues with the reveal of a brand new Tyranid unit and close examinations of how characters and weapons work in the new system. The latest issue of White Dwarf magazine continues the story of the space hulk Herald of Misery , adding new rules for deadly laser grids to Boarding Actions games and two short stories concerning the forces fighting within. Meanwhile, a Tale of Four Warlords takes on its second challenge of the year, while Part Five of The Great Stomp introduces campaign rules for Warhammer Age of Sigmar games set in the Living Peaks. Distressed Dude: The Lion spends a significant portion of the book's climax trapped and in need of a rescue. Spell My Name with a "The": When not referred to as "Lord Lion" or "Lion El'Jonson", he's always called the Lion by the narration, regardless of the point of view character. Yeah, shades of Alpha Legion, fitting. Not all Fallen follow the same Agenda. Not all Fallen came out of the rifts together. Explicitly, more Fallen are leaking out, and the Lion's appearance is heavily inferred to be a consequence of the Circatrix Maledictum. Not all Fallen are redeemable. Where some fell because they were pushed over the abyss, some leapt headlong to pursue their own endgame. There are shades of old Lion in him. Such as during the first fight against the Not-Chaos Beast, he imperiously throws his gore-clogged helmet to the people he dived in to save, commanding them first to stay out of the way, and second, clean my helmet. During a fight. That's our lovable bastard. His own sword comes to him as he accidentally warp-walks into Arthurian Legend. It's Power-Excalibur, err, Fealty.

There was never any doubt that another Loyalist Primarch would be returning to the series, and Lion El'Jonson was always the front runner in that race, so it isn't much of a surprise that this happened. It is still deliciously enjoyable to see it play out. Unlike the horrible Ultra depression we see in Guilliman's dealing with his own return, the Lion hits the ground running singularly focused on the mission. Cut off from the rest of the Imperium? We'll deal with it. Enemies at every corner? We'll deal with it. Chaos out of control? We'll deal with it. A solid book if you want an update on the Dark Angels. Even then its still pretty solid science fantasy stuff. Así es como el leon se encamina en un viaje para volver a poder proteger a la humanidad que ahora es acosada por la disformidad y los xenos ¿podrá reunir las fuerzas necesarias para defenderlos a todos? The circumstances of the Lion's return are shrouded in mystery; it's never revealed why he woke up when and where he did, or how he aquired his ability to forestwalk. Caveat here is that I listened to the audiobook version, so I am trying to avoid names and specific details here because frankly I have no idea how to spell them. So I apologize if I'm a bit vague or can't provide specific quotes because I don't have the text in front of me to directly draw from. The book is written in POVs. The Lion's. The wayward Fallen son, Zabriel, whom to me is a stand-in for the everyday Fallen. The other wayward Fallen son, Baelor, whom exists in a state of grace, while balls deep in the bowels of heresy. Older and Wiser: The Lion, when last seen in Horus Heresy books, was prideful, cold and uncompromising. The state of the galaxy in the forty-second millennium makes him acutely aware of his own failings, and he works to be more understanding and forgiving. It has a narrow scope, with a more focused story because it is all about that setting up HIM in the current setting. It is the footing we need for him to have other stories after this, because you have to start somewhere. So the fact that people bashed on this novel so hard when it didn't even get wide release yet, based on frankly outrageous expectations for what it should have been is just plain bizarre to me. The Lion. Son of the Emperor, brother of demigods and Primarch of the Dark Angels. Awakened. Returned. And yet...lost.

Bevedan was part of the group that opened fire on the Lion's forces on Caliban, starting the battle that saw the planet destroyed; he sacrifices himself to free the Lion from Seraphax's chains. Co-Dragons: Baelor and Markog are both Seraphax's top lieutenants, though Markog is perpetually envious of what he perceives as Baelor's higher status.

Covers Always Lie: The cover shows the Lion wielding both Fealty and the Emperor's Shield; in the book, he does not acquire the Shield until the penultimate chapter, and never takes it with him to battle. But main thing I just want to say is that after finishing this book, I feel like people on this sub really misconstrued this book into something it isn't. The Lion presents an opportunity to move on from that old story and to finally present the Dark Angels with an opportunity to take their rightful place as paragons of the Imperium, who lead, and who don't exist in the shadows, ever shrouded by secrecy and shame. Evil Gloating: Seraphax is more than happy to brag about his plan when he has the Lion on the ropes, as he wants to convince him about the righteousness of the whole venture. His battle against the Chaos fleet is well done. You really, really see Lion’s age when he has to struggle to kill JUST six World Eaters wearing Terminator armor. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but the writer makes clear to you how the Young Lion’el would’ve torn them apart using just his bare fists like a fat girl through wedding cake!
