About this deal

I understand that it's foolish for me to expect to find anything, but I can't stop looking. I owe it to my sister, to ask all the questions, to turn over all the stones." You can also choose to read the ending as indicating that Evelyn has died and been returned to the Woodlands in death, and that Philippa has either walked between worlds or been granted a vision of her sister at peace. This reading is important to me for one big reason–for years, I’ve known people within my faith community who staunchly uphold that anyone who takes their own life will be damned. I reject this belief entirely and thoroughly–to me, as a reader, if Evelyn has died, however she died, she has reached her version of paradise. Star Wars: How Not to Get Eaten by Ewoks and Other Galactic Survival Skills (Indirect mention only)

Because this is one of those stories that feels too large to fit inside me. One of those stories that crawls through my skin to rip open old wounds and heal them anew, leaving me raw and open. And how do you deconstruct such a thing? A beautiful and melancholy novel about the aftermath of a magical experience…and a thought-provoking play on the potentialities of portal fantasy” YES, always! I listen to a lot of movie scores (The Village, Jane Eyre, The Duchess, Song of the Sea, Kingdom of Heaven, Whale Rider) and a lot of female vocalists (Ingrid Michaelson, AURORA, Birdy, Regina Spektor, Florence + the Machine) Favorite Movies/TV? little sister Lucy Evelyn befriends the supernatural creatures and feels more at home in their world; Not only was I wholly immersed in this novel--in the rich worlds of the Woodlands and wartime London--I was also invested in the characters' stories and wanted to see them succeed. Now, Evelyn spends her days sneaking into the woods outside her boarding school, wishing for the Woodlands. Overcome with longing, she is desperate to return no matter what it takes. Through Evelyn, we learn more about her sister, Phillipa, who has since moved to America for University.

In this love letter to portal fantasies and Narnia, Weymouth infuses her characters with a rich panoply of emotions set against wartime England. A shining thread of hope and healing mitigates the book’s heartbreak and underlying trauma, suggesting a bright future for all involved.”Evelyn, or Ev, was such a raw, heartbreaking character suffering from depression after being torn away from the world she saw as home. I was surprised by how dark this book got, not shying away from self harm and suicidal ideation. The writing was lovely. I will absolutely try the author again, because her prose was downright lovely. There are three possible explanations for what has happened to Evelyn. First is that she finally succumbed to her own struggles and trauma and loneliness and took her own life intentionally. Second is that she met with a fatal accident the night of her disappearance. Third is that she did indeed finally walk between worlds and return to the Woodlands. Similarly, there are two possible explanations for Philippa’s meeting with Evelyn in the book’s final chapter. First is that Phil’s grief has led her to imagine the entire thing out of her internal need for closure. Second is that she has actually seen Evelyn in the Woodlands, whether as the product of a vision or of physically walking between the worlds.

years ago, Evelyn and Philippa Hapwell cowered from air strikes in a London bomb shelter. But that night the sisters were transported to another realm called the Woodlands. In a forest kingdom populated by creatures out of myth and legend, they found temporary refuge. When they finally returned to London, nothing had changed at all—nothing, except themselves. When Evelyn goes missing, Philippa must confront the depth of her sister’s despair and the painful truths they’ve been running from. Her prose is so good, so emotion stirring that when I got to Philippa's part of the story I had to keep reading. Up to this point I wasn't that into Philippa... she felt like an overbearing older sister to me. I didn’t want to read her part, I didn't care to know her excuses for what she did to Evelyn... what could this half possibly be about?! But as i started Philippa's story I was blown away by what Laura Weymouth stirred in me for the hated older sister... and I was sobbing by the end. In a good and happy way for the siblings. And then we have Phillippa who's waging a different war of her own but finds herself just as lost as Evelyn. While I saw most of myself in Evelyn, it was the elder Hapwell sister who captured my heart. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary (First identified as World Between Worlds and Vergence Scatter)I’ve spent several years being coy about this question, but I thought I’d tell you my preferred interpretation of the ending of The Light Between Worlds, which is not to say that it’s the best or only or true interpretation of the ending. I specifically left the conclusion of the book–and Evelyn’s fate–open to the reader. Books are an act of partnership between reader and writer, and what you bring to the table has as much impact on Evelyn’s ending as the story I wrote. That being said, here is what I bring to The Light Between Worlds as a reader, rather than a writer.

If it’s your heart that fails you, we’ll teach your hands what to do. Then they will act before your heart can stop them” Loth-wolves, creatures native to Lothal, were intrinsically tied to the World Between Worlds and were capable of traveling through the realm in a similar manner to hyperspace travel. The Mortis gods painting served as the key to unveiling the entry way to the realm, through assistance from a key stone from the temple, by a Force-wielder, who was to place their hand on the Daughter's encircled hand. [1]It surprised me how much my opinion on everything changed. What I thought I knew was flipped on its head completely.
