About this deal

In the event of a tie, the winner is the richest player who has the most corpses under his annexes. If there is still a tie, then the game ends in a tie, and you must play again!! Build an annex: Choose a card in your hand. Play it in front of you, discarding a number of other cards equal to its rank. Any cards discarded with the shovel icon are returned to your hand. Once an annex is built, it will give you a special ability for the rest of the game and also allow you to bury corpses underneath it. Each player earns 1F for each room of his color (i.e. each door with a Key token of his color) occupied by a Guest card. build an annex (move a card from their hand to their player area; it now represents a structure under which a victim may be buried)

The Bloody Inn is played over a series of rounds where each player gets two actions. The actions include: bribing people, building annexes, killing travelers, or burying corpses. All this is done with the goal of stealing the most money from the victims. Whether or not their plan will work out, one thing is certain: Not every guest will leave this inn alive. Running an inn can be a lucrative business. If you know how to handle your guests you can make a killing. In the Bloody Inn players are greedy members of a poor farming family. Having invested in an inn, they undertake to make their fortune robbing and murdering guests but it's a lot of work, too much for one person. You’ll need accomplices. Fortunately, everyone has their price. Travellers of various professions can be bribed to help you accomplice your unsavory activities. To profit from murder, you must first dispose of the body. You can bury corpses under any of the inn’s annexes. Players control the annexes they build. If you use one belonging to another player you’ll have to split the profits with them. It’s better to deal with the richest guests in areas you control. But you can always undermine your opponents by stuffing their constructions full of low value victims!France 1831: In a remote corner of Ardèche, the little village of Peyrebeille sees numerous travelers pass through. A family of greedy rural farmers is determined to make its fortune and has devised a diabolical stratagem to achieve this goal: Invest in an inn so they can rob traveling guests, getting rich without arousing the suspicions of the police! Whether or not their plan will work out, one thing is certain: Not every guest will leave this inn alive. Module 1: The Carnies — The carnies are a new type of guest. This module can be played with or without the event cards. Before the start of the game, decide whether you want to include the event cards. At the end of the round (phase 3), before the police investigation step, if at least one carnie occupies a room of the inn (or a trailer), you must resolve the event card this round. The main thing that drew me to The Bloody Inn, other than the unique theme, was the outstanding artwork. The dark and creative style really drew me in and felt like it fit the theme of the game perfectly. Each card is colorfully illustrated with a picture of the guest, and also contains any relevant game information.

Building an annex is carried out using one of the accomplices in your hand and grants you the ability of the text in the bottom section of the guest card. The image above shows an example of a hand of accomplices we might have.Place the Guest card in front of you on the table, with its Dead Guest side visible; this now becomes a corpse. There is no limit to the number of corpses you can have in front of you, but watch out for the police! Finally, each card still in a player’s hand costs them 1 Franc per card they wish to retain for the next round. The Bloody Inn is a card game in which you play one member of a family of greedy, murderous innkeepers. The Bloody Inn is a card game by Pearl Games, with a macabre yet tongue-in-cheek theme. Up to four players are greedy farmers that run a 19th century inn, within a sleepy, remote French village. Your aim? Get rich by killing the guests, and then looting them before burying the evidence! But look out: the local police have heard suspicious activity around your establishment. If any of them survive the night, they’ll start sniffing around and you’ll have to buy your way out of trouble…

For the most part, I did really enjoy The Bloody Inn. It’s a hand management and engine building game with some really solid mechanics. It’s also one of those games where you almost always feel like you don’t have enough actions. The standard set by anything to come out of Pearl Games is extremely high. The excellent Troyes and its roll and write counterpart Troyes Dice are personal favourites. So The Bloody Inn has a lot to live up to. Or rather, die to, in this case. The part of the guest card I want you to focus on first is the left hand number, above the house outline, showing between 0 and 3 and denotes the guest’s rank. This is the number that shows how many cards (accomplices) you must play from your hand to carry out any of the four main actions on this guest card. Note: Police and Peasant cards cannot become annexes (notice that there is no house icon at the bottom of these cards), so they cannot be chosen as +the target of the Build action. Set in a remote area of France in 1831, a family of rural farmers are determined to make their fortune. Their diabolical plan? Invest in an inn so the can rob travelers and get rich. And since people tend to complain after they’ve been robbed, there is only one sure-fire way to keep their victims quiet. Make sure they don’t leave the inn alive. The Bloody Inn is one of my favourite games to look at, it has such a unique style. It obviously has a grim, dark theme that could put some people off, so therefore it may have been tempting to go with more lighthearted or comical artwork in a bid to make the game less grotesque. But I love how the illustrations give it an almost cinematic quality. The different characters that enter the inn just ooze character and look as though any of them could, quite rightly, be involved in shady dealings. And that’s before you add the expansion ‘Carnies’ which for me was a must-buy because I was so eager to add even more colourful characters to the massacre. Example: Madeline wants to build the distillery associated with the distiller she has in her hand. Because the distiller is rank 2, she plays 2 other cards from her hand 1. At the end of the round, if any room of the inn contains one of the police, then they conduct an investigation; if a player has any unburied victims, then he must pay 10F per victim to the local gravedigger to hurriedly — and quietly — bury the bodies!

The face up guest whose annex we have built will now either grant us an instant or ongoing ability. Players begin with a ten Franc cheque and five Francs in cash. Of course, none of your accomplices trust you enough to accept a cheque. So you'll need to earn some money or visit the notary to cash the cheque if you run low on funds. Earn too much money and you’ll need to launder it before you can make any more. If you can’t dispose of the bodies you can’t claim the ill-gotten gains. And corpses left lying around risk discovery. You never know when law enforcement might visit. If you have unburied bodies when they do you’re in trouble. You’ll have to recruit the help of an unscrupulous undertaker to bail you out. Unfortunately, they don’t come cheap and handling corpses this way will eat into your profits. You’ll also be unable to claim the rewards. Everyone has skeletons in the closet. But you have them in the barn, the vegetable garden, and the butcher shop too. Well, you can't just leave them lying around for anyone to find! Growing a business means expansion and diversification. Parlors, parks and gardens, distilleries, and workshops will all amplify the attraction of your inn. Each new annex delivers a competitive advantage. Not to mention a few more places to conceal a corpse or two!The First Player is responsible for welcoming travelers for this round. He must perform the following steps: The Bloody Inn, by Nicholas Robert, is a game of murder, robbery, bribery, and burial – the challenges of making a living as a serial killing family in the hospitality industry. It accommodates one to four players for 45 to 60 minutes and is suitable for players aged 14 and over. The grim and macabre theme draws on the historic events of an establishment known as L’auberge rouge (The Red Inn), and the murderous family that amassed significant wealth over the decades they ran it. A Grave Undertaking The Bloody Inn casts you as an innkeeper of questionable morals trying to earn as much money as possible.. Rather than earning an honest wage, you’ve decided that murder and theft are more your style. It’s certainly more lucrative. Your plan is to appeal to the darker side of some your guests to help you murder the other guests, dispose of the bodies, and take their money while eluding police suspicion. Your actions may be reprehensible, but no one can say you didn’t work hard for your wealth. An Inn and Its Guests How it Plays
