Morgan, Diannah; Gaskell, Ed (2004). Creative titling with Final Cut Pro (illustrateded.). The Ilex Press Ltd. p.22. ISBN 978-1-904705-15-4. While the Texas Chainsaw Massacre true story, and the house it involved, were inspired by real life, most of the sequels were simply following up the terror of Leatherface and his chainsaw. This was especially true when it came to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, which deviated completely from anything resembling the Ed Gein narrative. With Dennis Hopper in the movie as a former Texas Marshall hunting the cannibalistic family down, this movie eschewed a lot of the scares for over-the-top gore and an emphasis on dark comedy, turning the terrifying first movie into an actual horror comedy. However, this was a sequel, so Leatherface was still based on Ed Gein, but it was no longer his story. Merritt, Naomi (2010). The midcentury period piece stars Lili Taylor as Sawyer matriarch Verna and Stephen Dorff as Texas sheriff Hal Hartman, an obsessed lawman in the mold of Dennis Hopper's Lefty Enright, whose daughter Betty was killed by the Sawyers in 1955. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has appeared on various home video formats. In the US, it was first released on videotape and CED in the early 1980s by Wizard Video and Vestron Video. [166] [167] The British Board of Film Classification had long since refused a certification for the uncut theatrical version and in 1984 they also refused to certify it for home video, amid a moral panic surrounding " video nasties". [168] After the retirement of BBFC Director James Ferman in 1999, the board passed the film uncut for theatrical and video distribution with an 18 certificate, almost 25 years after the original release. [169] The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was initially released on DVD in October 1998 in the United States, [170] May 2000 in the United Kingdom [171] and 2001 in Australia.

Retrieved May 31, 2008. s Texas Chainsaw 3D was the second attempt at a direct sequel to the original movie, released 40 years after it, and filled with nostalgia for it: The opening scene recreates moments from the original movie, and is set in its soon-to-be burned farmhouse. The whole thing hinges on reverence for the 1974 film, without adding anything scary to it. At the end, the heroine and Leatherface are even revealed to be cousins, and they team up, retooling the masked killer’s vicious tendencies as a neighborly quirk. It misjudges Leatherface as a bit of American iconography rather than an object of terror — the cinematic equivalent of Charles Manson T-shirt. Weaver, James B.; Tamborini, Ronald C. (1996).
