About this deal

Corcoran, Monica (June 28, 2008). "Molly Ringwald: Pretty in Pucci". Los Angeles Times. Archived from the original on March 8, 2009 . Retrieved January 8, 2013. Judith Baldwin as Susan, one of Edward's ex-girlfriends whom he runs into at Phil's party at the beginning of the film. She has recently married and Edward's secretary was a bridesmaid. Shelley Michelle acted as body double for Roberts in risqué scenes and the film's publicity poster. [29] Reception [ edit ] Box office [ edit ] Though inspired by such films as Wall Street and The Last Detail, [5] the film bears a resemblance to Pygmalion myths: particularly George Bernard Shaw's play of the same name, which also formed the basis for the Broadway musical My Fair Lady. It was Walt Disney Studios then-president Jeffrey Katzenberg who insisted the film be re-written as a modern-day fairy tale and love story, as opposed to the original dark drama. It was pitched to Touchstone Pictures and re-written as a romantic comedy. [6] The title 3000 was changed because Disney executives thought it sounded like a title for a science fiction film. [7] Casting [ edit ] Much as I feel I probably should, I find it hard to dislike Pretty Woman. As formulaic and push-button-y as it is, it still houses some truly enjoyable movie-star chemistry, just enough laughs to keep me happy, and a cuddly-sweet happy ending that fits perfectly with the puddle-deep yet likable presentation.

Music Video (SD, 4 minutes) - Natalie Cole probably cringes with embarrassment whenever she sees this oh-so-'80s video of Wild Women Do. The song works better in the film than it does on its own, but the video is an amusing historical relic. Kachka, Boris (December 4, 2005). During the scene in which Roberts sang a Prince song in the bathtub, slid down, and submerged her head under the bubbles; she emerged to find the crew had left except for the cameraman, who captured the moment on film. In the love scene, she was so stressed that a vein became noticeable on her forehead and had to be massaged by Marshall and Gere. She also developed a case of hives, and calamine lotion was used to soothe her skin until filming resumed. [4] The filming was completed on November 30. [28]

VIDEO: "Pretty Woman" is presented by Touchstone in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen on this release, an improvement over the prior release's non-anamorphic effort. Sharpness and detail aren't remarkable in any way, but the definition level at least appeared consistent and pleasing. Obviously, the movie is entirely predictable and about as far from reality as possible, but both leads offer great performances and the writing is better-than-average for the genre. Although Marshall lets the movie run too long for it's own good (something he does with just about every one of his movies), he does manage to make conventional elements seem mostly charming and easily accepted. The movie does look dated 15 years later, but it still stands up as a whole pretty well. Those who consider it a mildly entertaining piece of cinematic piffle, not exactly hilarious, but fairly amusing, with solid chemistry between two mega-wattage movie stars. The 1990 Production Featurette is your typical "we're making a movie we want you to see" piece of on-set promotional material. Runs just under 4 minutes. Script was developed at the Sundance Film Institute. According to the July 1991 "Esquire," Robert Garland, Stephen Metcalfe, and Barbara Benedek all contributed to the development of the screenplay. Earlier versions of the screenplay were more downbeat and realistic, emphasizing the darker side of the relationships. Director Garry Marshall is often credited with turning the film into a more romantic, upbeat fairy tale. You'll also find a blooper reel that runs about 2.5 minutes, a Natalie Cole video for "Wild Women Do," the original Pretty Woman theatrical trailer, and a bunch of Sneak Peeks for Shopgirl, Flightplan, Desperate Housewives: The Complete First Season, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Scrubs: The Complete Second Season, Alias: The Complete Fourth Season, and a Disney TV on DVD promo. Pretty Woman is an absolute wedding cake of a movie; it hardly works as a substantial meal, but if you want to ingest something pink, sweet, and laden with calories, you know where to find it. Domestic Grosses by MPAA Rating". Archived from the original on August 20, 2016 . Retrieved July 4, 2016. Screened at the 1990 Taormina Film Festival, Deauville Film Festival, and Cairo International Film Festival. After completing his business in Los Angeles, Edward asks Vivian to stay with him for one more night. However, he makes it clear that she should only do so if she wants to, not because he is paying her. Vivian gently refuses and leaves. This rejection prompts Edward to re-evaluate his life, and while being driven to the airport, he asks the chauffeur to detour to Vivian's apartment building. He climbs out of the white limousine's sunroof and ascends the fire escape to rescue Vivian, just like the knight in her childhood fantasy.
