About this deal

The app itself is well designed and has all the functionality that you would expect from a drone controller. Although we found the app to be pretty well designed and very easy to use we did miss the feel of a real controller in our hands. Added to this that there is the ever so slight lag between using the controls and the reaction on the drone – probably due to the fact that the controller communicates with the drone using WiFi rather than through the usual radio frequencies more commonly used. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. Read our editorial mission & see how we test. App-I spent the 4 dollars to get the 'Directors Mode' of the app, which is only on IOS. It promises better control, smoother flight, blah blah blah...all things that should have been part of the basic app if you ask me. I tried, but could never get it to work with my iPad. The basic Android app is slow and unresponsive, which is not qualities I look for when something is spinning around my head. Despite repeated flat trimming and re-caibration, the copter doesn't follow commands, leading to high-anxiety situations. It's not just the controls; on both app platforms, you have to repeatedly hit the settings buttons to get into them. To lose a several hundred dollar toy becasue of a mistake, I can accept; to lose it beacsue it's not responding and going into a dangerous situation, I can not. It is difficult to fly this drone responsibly. I 'll say it again: IT IS DIFFICULT TO FLY THIS DRONE RESPONSIBLY. A relatively new player to the market is the MJX Bugs 2 WiFi drone which has a number of features associated with much more expensive drones. First off, it has an excellent 1080p HD camera on board and also features GPS with a range of up to 1km (0.5km with video for FPV).

Despite all these things, this drone even when it crashes sometimes do not get any major damage as it is designed to give you the best flight experience. This drone has the feature of automatically shutting down in case of accidents. There are certain other features available to make the flight experience better and comfortable.Aside from the WiFi lag we found the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 a dream to fly and had no issues in wind in terms of stability and we tested it in some quite testing conditions. The only other real downside to the usability of this device was the range of flight, this was limited to around 20 metres – again this is a serious limitation of the WiFi communication between controller (mobile phone) and the drone itself. That being said, 20 metres will be fine for most users and particularly if using in more built up areas. Featuring a range of high end features such as altitude hold, one key take off and landing and stepless speed changing, this drone is perfect for beginners and more experienced pilots alike. The version we are featuring here comes with a 5.8GHz LCD FPV monitor to allow you to enjoy an excellent first person view whilst flying your drone. The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Elite Edition comes with several different settings. To help you get started, it’s best to start with basic settings, until you become a pro at flying. The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Elite Edition lets you adjust altitude, rotation speed, and other flight settings, before you even take to the air. Start with the lowest and slowest settings to help you get started. The Bugs 2 looks the part too, with 4 LED lights and a sporty looking design that is sure to make you the envy of your friends. Being quite nippy and with excellent battery life, the Bugs 2 would be a good alternative racing drone to the Mambo although it is a little more expensive.

The Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition is one of two different UAVs – Unmanned Aerial Vehicles – in the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 line. The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Elite Edition is a more inexpensive version, while their Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Power Edition has a longer running time and a few differing features. Overall, we loved the Hubsan H501S X4, if nothing else it provided an excellent FPV experience at a fraction of the cost of some other drones and the return to home and built in GPS were very reliable and a lifesaver at times. We found moving video footage to be pretty stable thanks to the built in stability control of the drone – according to Parrot this is good in wind conditions of up to 15MPH. Overall I strongly recommend that your first flight be outside, in an open area, on a windless day. You can do it inside, but be careful. See " Fragility" below. We didn’t test it with a water cannon, hook and basket or bubble blower but have it on good authority that these features are a lot of fun too. If you are using the Parrot Mambo for video recording then you might want something a little more stable, but for pure fun and enjoyment it is hard to beat. The first thing to note is that the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 sits in the low to mid price range. So whilst it is not anywhere near the high end premium models such as the Mavic Pro or Phantom 4 Pro it is also not classed as an out and out budget drone either. The Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Specs
