About this deal

By harnessing the power of positive thinking, we can plan in advance, set clear goals, and develop a deep sense of purpose. We can do this by listening to our intuitive voice, relying on our infinite intelligence, and avoiding the temptation to act impulsively. Controlling environmental influence. Who you hang out with matters. What your room looks like matters.

Learning from adversity. Failures are just failures. Whether we learn from them or let them stop us is up to us. You don’t need anyone telling you that people have this natural inclination to put these two in the same league. The lesson is always to keep moving forward and to have faith in our "Infinite Intelligence." If we listen to ourselves, we will learn how to take calculated risks and create a sense of purpose. The Devil Is in the Details If you could do anything in the world, what would it be? So what's standing in the way of pursuing this goal? Did you know that according to Napoleon Hill, 98% of us are governed by fear? Napoleon Hill was one of America's great, influential thinkers who continues to have an enormous impact today." --Steve Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine

You will discover that the cause of success is not something separate and apart from the man; that it is a force so intangible in nature that the majority of men never recognize it; a force which might be properly called the ‘other self.’” Mr. Carnegie pointed out that if he wants to be of service to all people, and posterity as well, he must also underline the causes for failure. As you can imagine, the first identity won’t accomplish anything till it connects to her other, better part. Actionable Notes:

Mr. Carnegie was surprised to hear that Hill planned to get his degree by interviewing successful people and writing their stories in magazines. In 1908, he met Andrew Carnegie (one of the world’s wealthiest people throughout history) and expressed a desire to enroll in Law School. I can best define the word “drift” by saying that people who think for themselves never drift, while those who do little or no thinking for themselves are drifters.”

Outwitting the Devil: the Secret to Freedom and Success, by Napoleon Hill and Sharon L. Lechter. New York: Sterling Publishing, 2011. ISBN 1-4027-8453-8 All humans have free will, but we can't change the weather, the economy or much else. All we do have complete control over are:

Napoleon Hill was born in 1883 in a one-room cabin on the Pound River in Wise County, Virginia. He began his writing career at age 13 as a “mountain reporter” for small town newspapers and went on to become America’s most beloved motivational author. Hill passed away in November 1970 after a long and successful career writing, teaching, and lecturing about the principles of success. Dr. Hill’s work stands as a monument to individual achievement Concepts such as the importance of mindset (and even obsession) were totally new to me. I enjoyed that book, and was curious about this one. The person who moves with definiteness of purpose recognizes the difference between temporary defeat and failure. When plans fail he substitutes others but he does not change his purpose. He perseveres."Napoleon Hill is renowned for his endeavors in the pursuit of truth and finding the formula for success. Interviewer: You are saying that without your influence, there would be no world, changes, emotions, stars? The story goes that Hil's intuition galvanized him into finishing his manuscript for his first self-help book . He listened to his intuitive voice and was told that the first step to getting out of his hypnotic rhythm was to finish his manuscript. Once he finished the document, he was able to move onto the next step. He was guided to meet a publisher, and was given an advance and a publishing deal. However, this ‘other self’ is exactly what the devil tries to undermine at every turn of our lives. He does so by dividing mankind into drifters and non-drifters. Lesson 2: The devil seeks to make us permanent drifters, never getting around to what we’re meant to do in life. Ever since I can remember, my mother was constantly repeating that I have to get good grades, to graduate – “How else you will find a good job?” – she was saying. Well, I graduated from school, high-school, I even got a master’s degree. Did I get a good job? Not thanks to what I’ve learned in school. Actually, I developed in a completely different area than what I’ve studied for so many years I school. I lived with this false expectation for so many years – that when I graduate I’ll be a CEO, a real boss, a success.
