About this deal

Tequila can be a stiff drink, but it’s no stronger than any other spirit. When produced for consumption in Mexico it’s usually 38% ABV, but in the United States it must be at least 40% alcohol to count as the real deal. For consumption in the rest of the world, it can be anywhere between 31% and 55% ABV. How we test tequila Blanco tequila is different from other expressions of tequila in that it is clear in color and only sees 0-2 months of aging, if any at all. Some professionals say that blanco tequilas are the purest expressions on the market, as they do not see any oak aging. My journey has seen me as an owner of sophisticated bars and renowned liquor shops, and even as a Mezcal distiller, honing the craft from scratch. Tequila Ocho is the first ever Tequila (and one of the few spirits in the world) to designate the specific field from which the agaves were sourced, as well as the year of harvest. Each batch of Ocho uses agaves harvested from just one single field at a time (think single-vineyard wines), demonstrating the existence of terroir in agave growing and Tequila production. Ocho is the brainchild of Tomas Estes (Official Tequila Ambassador to the EU) and Carlos Camarena (third generation Master Distiller at La Alteña, Carlos is one of the most respected Master Distillers in Mexico). Ocho uses traditional processes that would have been similar to the methods used by Carlos’s grandfather in 1937 when the distillery was founded. It is a 100% agave Tequila, and is also 100% additive-free; each and every bottle of Ocho produced contains only 3 ingredients: blue agave, natural spring water, and yeast.

Ocho is the first single estate tequila, designed to showcase the agave plant's ability to convey differing flavours from the land. Each vintage is harvested from diverse fields around the Mexican state of Jalisco. The brainchild of Tomas Estes and Carlos Camarena, two much loved and celebrated tequila experts. After fermentation, the liquid is distilled to produce Blanco Tequila without aging in oak barrels.Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or just dipping your toes into this world, I invite you to join me as we explore the fascinating realm of these legendary spirits. There’s a reason why bartenders across the country can’t get enough of Fortaleza Blanco Tequila—it’s got history, it’s got taste, and it’s produced as traditionally as possible. Fortaleza was first brought to the United States over 150 years ago, and in terms of production, not much has changed since then. The family uses only estate-grown agave and traditional tahonas to create this high-quality product, with additives never used. Expect flavors of pepper, smoke, and a hint of sweetness to lead to a savory, lingering finish. Created in partnership between Olmeca master distiller Jesús Hernández and two top bartenders from the UK, this 100% agave tequila hailing from the Highland region of Jalisco boasts a nose full of agave character, alongside grass, citrus and spring blossom. These characters continue onto the palate, accompanied by a chalky hint and a cocoa finish. Alc 38% Patron may be a big producer of Tequila, but its production process and the small sizes of its numerous stills mean that it is still able to make its product in relatively small batches. This is a smooth, soft liquid with base notes of toffee and fudge overlaid with a greener vegetal note, lemon peel, some pepper and numbing anise. Alc 40%

Fuenteseca Cosecha presents an exceptional Tequila, reshaping expectations by delivering vibrant flavors with a smooth and approachable nature. Here, I’m not just sharing opinions; I’m weaving tales from the rich tapestry of my experiences over these three decades. Also known as silver or white Tequila, it is unaged and bottled shortly after the distillation process. Almost a year ago I wrote a review about a tequila Ocho blanco (Loa Mangos) that wasn't necessarily my personal cup of tea, but it really accomplished what this brand is all about. This vintage and terroir driven brand creates a different tequila each year from a given ranch. Different altitudes and growing conditions can create very different flavors. So even though the brand is the same, the tequila might be significantly different. So let's dive right in.

Tequila Ocho Añejo Tropical Barrel Select

Blanco – a white-coloured spirit, bottled or stored straight after distillation or aged less than two months in stainless steel or oak barrels. It may have hints of citrus, pepper, and herbal undertones, offering a refreshing and smooth taste. What's with the name, you ask? Ocho (eight in English) hold an important place within the brand for a multitude of reasons. A few of these are that it takes an average of eight years for agaves to ripen before harvest, eight kilograms of agave to make one litre of Ocho Tequila, and it took eight different samples for Estes and Camarena to find the perfect recipe. A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. Tomas has been advocating 100% agave sipping tequila throughout his bars since 1976. He has gained recognition as the Tequila ambassador and is often featured as a guest speaker across Australia, Europe and the Americas.

The different tastes are quite distinctive. With blanco, the agave flavours tend to be more intense, while reposado or añejo are usually smoother, mellower and more complex – and just like other spirits aged in casks, they can take on the flavours of the wood. How do I know it’s tequila? Finish: A very nice medium-long finish that still says AGAVE (with the capital letters). There's a hint of bitterness from the earth notes, but it rounds it out nicely. Aroma: This one is all about the agave. You like agave forward blancos, you will love the nose on this one.
