About this deal

Yes, Nemo is a loved brand among people for good reason. They have sleeping bags for all types of weather conditions and are pretty roomy. Users enjoy these features and prefer the brand for the same. Baffles in a sleeping bag are sewn separations that keep the down in place to prevent it from bunching up. It is important to consider baffle size and placement in a down bag. After years of use, the feathers tend to migrate into clumps. A little care and proper maintenance can prevent this. NEMO’s Spoon Bags have more room in the hips and knees to allow comfy side sleeping. A major feature of this bag. Another feature that is quite unique to Nemo bags is the Blanket Fold. Like a comforter at home, the blanket fold gives some extra material to snuggle around your face and helps to control temperature. The Forte bags can still zip together with the Women's bags if that is something you want in your bag. A bag’s insulating material will greatly alter its weight-to-warmth ratio. The downside of down (ahem) is that if it gets wet, it loses its warming power.

Sleeping bags do not generate heat; they only trap the heat we produce, so it is vital that you get into your bag when you are giving off warmth, don’t go to bed when you are cold, have a hot meal or a hot drink or do some brisk exercise to get you nicely warmed up. FP PFC-free, hydrophobic down is the filling put into the Disco bag, whereas Forte gets filled with synthetic Primaloft RISE 80% PCR filling. While the latter is also good, nothing beats soft and warm down filling- known for its insulation. Even though Disco uses a down filling, it is extracted humanely and follows the RDS 100%. Not sure when or how to wash your sleeping bag? Don’t worry because I have you covered with not only when and how to wash your bag, but how to maintain and keep it safe at home and outdoors. How to Use the RecommendationsThe bag is filled with 850-fill-power goose down certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) and bluesign approved. It’s also been treated to be water-resistant. A good sleeping bag is a foundational piece of gear for the outdoor enthusiast. Consider where and when you want to use your bag. Are you planning a summer outing at low elevation or a winter getaway in the mountains? The most important aspect of any piece of gear a thru-hiker must consider is the weight. Every single ounce counts when you hike for months on end.

The lowest temperature ideal to handle with the Disco bag is 15°F or -9°C. However, Forte has a less broad spectrum with ample protection from the temperature of 20°F or -7°C.

A novelty in this category is the Mountain Hardwear Lamina ECO AF , which stands out because of its eco-friendly materials. Also, consider the expandable zippered gills that increase the circumference like in the NEMO Disco. This is advantageous if you are a side sleeper or want to draw your knees up at night. Most bags also allow two-way zippers to promote venting at the feet while the majority of the zipper towards the head stays zipped. NEMO offers an excellent warranty on its products, so if pieces of this bag fail, like the zipper, get in touch.

Fabrics: A tough 30D ripstop polyester encapsulates the insulation and provides a water-resistant barrier if you happen to spill your morning coffee over yourself. The inner lining is a soft 20D fabric which feels a little more like what you'd find at home. This year, we’ve also discovered the Forte series, from fellow US gear manufacturer NEMO Equipment. Just like the Sidewinder, these bags are also custom designed to help all you side sleepers out there get plenty of good-quality Zzz’s. The design approach is slightly different though. Unlike most technical sleeping bags, which tend to be mummy-shaped, the Forte employs an unusual Spoon shape, which flares at the elbows and knees. This extra room is designed to allow side sleepers to shift positions comfortably throughout the night. What Is The NEMO Forte Sleeping Bag Best Suited To? That is not to say that a higher value will be warmer; the amount of insulating material is also a factor. For example, a bag with twice as much 600-fill down can maintain heat as well as a bag with half that much in 950-fill, but it will consequently be markedly heavier. In terms of cost, the Nemo Disco 15 falls right in the middle of the price range for sleeping bags in its category. In general, the higher the fill count and lighter the weight, the more expensive a sleeping bag is going to be. The Disco 15 is neither the lightest nor the most expensive 15-degree bag out there. Plus, the signature Blanket Fold feature helps regulate the temperature and optimum comfort while sleeping. The Forte Men's 20° Endless Promise from Nemo Equipment gives you a standout sleeping bag with a truly sustainable design that's ideal for side-sleepers for use on 3-season, colder weather camps and treks.

The Montbell Down Hugger has done away with baffles altogether with a unique web design, while the Rab Mythic Ultraemploys trapezoidal baffles to further prevent down migration. When I first got word that NEMO was updating its Forte sleeping bag to be a fully recyclable product, I was amped. When I heard I was getting the chance to test it out, I was equally stoked to see how and if a more sustainable bag could still hold up to the performance, durability, and comfort standards NEMO has built its brand on. Finally, NEMO offers a down line of Spoon Bags, which utilize the same features and shape, but have down insulation of varying qualities. The mid-range versions are called the Disco (Men’s) and Rave (Women’s), have 650-fill down, and compress quite small. The high-end versions are the Riff (Men’s) and Jam (Women’s), have 800-fill down, and are premium sleeping bags. All are offered in 15 and 30 degree versions. That said, the Disco 15 will keep you plenty warm during the cold start to your thru-hike without weighing you down to an unacceptable level in the process. As we said before, down is warmer than synthetic insulation gram for gram. As the fill power (also called CUIN) rating for down climbs higher, so does the price. A 950-fill down does a much better job of trapping heat than a 600-fill down.

Assessment

I live in Hawaii, so most of my camping trips are in warm weather. The ability to control the temperature with multiple zippers and vents was a huge perk for me and something I think I ‘ll enjoy in cold weather as well, as my temperature tends to fluctuate a lot throughout the night. And for those times when I hike to higher altitudes, this bag is plenty warm, too. It’s a best of both worlds sleeping bag. A good indicator of whether a company is prepared to stand behind their products is usually reflected in their warranty policy. Good news amigos: The Nemo Disco 15 is fully covered by a Nemo lifetime warranty.
