About this deal

The collection will feature Metal Gear Solids: Twin Snakes (the Gamecube remake of MGS1), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The visuals still fall well short of today's standards, but I'm in favor of retaining as much of the original games as possible. This doesn't mean Konami had to leave them alone completely, though. Other similar collections have added optional visual improvements, allowing you to swap between the original game and an updated version with greater graphical fidelity. Maybe this doesn't make sense in Snake Eater's case since a fully-fledged remake is already in development, but the Master Collection would've been elevated by including some optional advancements to modernize MGS and MGS2.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2004. The prequel to the original Metal Gear is set in the 1960s, and puts players in control of Naked Snake (aka Big Boss, the antagonist of the very first game in the franchise) on a mission set largely in Soviet Russia. Metal Gear Solid 3 introduced a camouflage-based layer to the franchise’s stealth-based gameplay, along with close-quarters combat mechanics. Given the fact Konami has put Vol. 1 on the end of its Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection, it seems incredibly likely there'll be a Vol. 2 in the future. However, no official confirmation has been shared at the time of writing. There are rumours, though, which point to a second collection containing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (presumably with Ground Zeroes bundled in), and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. Konami has added the option to pause cutscenes in a roundabout way, but it only works in Metal Gear Solid. Pausing in the original 1998 release didn't provide you with any options, so Konami has added what's called a Stance Menu so you can view an online manual, change various controller settings, fiddle with the display area, and so on. The fact that accessing this menu pauses the game--even during cutscenes--is a useful side effect, but one that doesn't transfer to MGS 2 or MGS3. Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge wasn't worked on by series creator Hideo Kojima, so it's not considered canon. This is simply a neat inclusion from the Master Collection; the actual sequel to Metal Gear is Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, not this. Play it if you like, but you're not missing out on much. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection: What to Play FirstI guess it's petty, but everyone is still credited in each game, so...idk doesn't seem like too big a deal. It is pretty petty, but also...it's so petty that I both don't really care, and think it's kinda funny they'd do this little thing just to slight Kojima.

Originally released in 1987, the first Metal Gear – directed by series creator Hideo Kojima, of course – adopted an isometric viewpoint, and was later ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System, which is the version we suspect the majority of you will be most familiar with. The sequel never actually made its way outside of its native Japan at first, but was eventually localised for the abovementioned Subsistence. Both actually represent pivotal parts of the Metal Gear plot, with the second game in particular connecting to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. The following issues were listed by Konami as being "under investigation", with the company noting that: “We will continue to provide regular updates on future improvements and fixes as further details are finalized."Before there was Metal Gear Solid, there was Metal Gear. First released on the MSX, the Master Collection respects its roots by allowing you to experience the origins of the series. Played from a top-down perspective, these games are quite a lot different from the Metal Gear Solid entries, but they are important for continuing the story on from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This isn't an essential playthrough, though. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake Version Included Fixed an issue where some buttons were assigned multiple functions (Details on the updated controls are available in the Online Manual)

This collection has fixed many issues present in the HD Collection versions, so it's easily the best modern way to play these titles (PS2 versions win out slightly when it comes to a few bonus features, but in terms of the core titles, they're at their best here. Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel– A fully-voiced digital comic depicting the events of Metal Gear Solid through beautifully dynamic animated panels. The Volume 1 line-up features the original titles and beginning of the Metal Gear series, including the original versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid (which also includes VR Missions / Special Missions), and the HD Collection versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.Metal Gear ( Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom version) – A unique standalone installment that offers a fresh twist on the original Metal Gear‘s story and game system.

Given the power Konami has access to in the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and top-of-the-range PCs, this is somewhat of a disappointment. So much more could have been done — even just on the purely resolution and frame rate end — to make these three classics shine once more. They still do as the unique direction of Hideo Kojima is clear to see, but it's smeared somewhat by PS1 pixels and dated PS3 visuals. KundaliniRising333 Schills? Interesting term. I concur that this release is far from perfect. Most of the genuine outrage I see is geared towards the PC Steam releases which have more concerning issues than console versions. As for the console versions MGS1 and 2 seem to be the only ones with some issues currently (sound and some visual effects) that can easily remedied in a patch. This not an excuse, but a mere correction to stamp out the exaggerated claims. MGS3 however, I haven't noticed any glaring issues on the same level. Some speedrunners claim this is the best modern re-release of the game.Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater ( HD Collection version) – The story that tells the beginning of the epic saga. It covers the events of both Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater, detailing how the man code-named Naked Snake earned the title of Big Boss. While previous games in the Metal Gear series took place in more urban settings and involved infiltrating buildings, this game is set in an unforgiving jungle. In addition to hiding in the shadows, players can use uniforms and face paint as camouflage to blend in with their surroundings. This gameplay system was expanded upon in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. An edition boasting the ultimate survival experience called Subsistence was released later. This title was the fifth game released in the official history of the Metal Gear franchise.
