MagSafe has a maximum speed of 15W. Comparing it to the 65W fast charging of the OnePlus 9 Pro, it is not the fastest charging solution out there, however, it is an improvement on the 7.5W Qi wireless charging. You can use two of the three downstream TB4 ports to connect directly to USB-C-equipped monitors or HDMI or DisplayPort screens using inexpensive adapters. It can handle two 6K displays at 60Hz or one 8K monitor at the same refresh rate. It can supply two external 4K displays at 60Hz or one 8K monitor but at 30Hz rather than 60Hz like the Caldigit TS4, so single-screen gamers should probably look elsewhere. On the Apple side, the iPhone 15 has been heavily rumoured to feature the latest Qi2 charging technology. We will have to wait until the iPhone 15 range is released to confirm these claims, but at this point, it seems very likely. How does MagSafe for iPhone work?
The detachable power bank is powered up while in the stand, via the connected 1.5m USB-C cable that requires a decent (at least 20W) wall charger. You can swap out the cable for a longer or shorter one if that’s what you require.
The TS3 Plus isn’t unsuitable for non-Thunderbolt laptops—but as most MacBooks have at least TB3, that shouldn’t matter unless you work in a mixed Mac/Windows environment. It’s small enough to be portable, but don’t forget that the external power supply will weigh down your travel bag.
