The Return of the King' - 'The Return of the King' was always long...now, it's just really, really long. From the start, we see an extension of the Smeagol/Deagol scene, making the choking death scene much more graphic and intense. But the biggest change in tone and mood is to come. Sauroman is given a proper sendoff, rather than just disappearing, out of sight, out of mind. Wormtongue also gets his comeuppance here. It was blasphemy that a world class actor like Lee was ever cut from an entire film, so seeing his fate is worth the five minutes it takes. The film starts much colder, wrapping up loose ends, showing things are about to get rough.

The expanded color range on the 4k Blu-ray presentation of LOTR is incredible, with luminance levels unparalleled in scenes like the opening of the Trilogy at the battle of Mordor where the One Ring glows amidst a dark army of Sauron’s forces. The Maps in LOTR of Middle Earth never looked so sharp, and neither have the shots of the ‘One Ring’ with carved inscriptions that are incredibly detailed, beautifully luminous, and perfectly legible (if you could read Elvish tengwar – if not, Galadriel provides the translation).also available in the 31-disc Middle Earth Ultimate Collector's Edition, which combines the LotR and All 3 Extended Versions on newly remastered Blu-ray Discs. This 15-disc set included the original 9 special-features DVDs with over 26 hours of spellbinding behind-the-moviemaking material, including the Costa Botes documentaries. In the middle chapter of this historic movie trilogy, the Fellowship is broken, but its quest to destroy the One Ring continues.

Once again, don’t forget that in addition to the films, you also get a Movies Anywhere Digital Copy code, which should be good for all three films in both versions in 4K. But don’t get rid of your previous Blu-ray and/or DVD editions if you wish to retain all of the extras, The Appendices, and other bonus features (because you won’t find any of that content here). To celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring's theatrical debut, Warner Bros. has issued remastered Blu-rays of all three The obvious selling point of this release is the high def debut for the fan favorite cuts of the film trilogy. On DVD, these editions were released after the Theatrical Edition DVD release of each respective film, timed to coincide with the next film to bow in theaters (while the final Extended Edition release was then released in the same time period as it would have if there were a fourth film). The films now run an epic 228 minutes, 235 minutes, and 263 minutes, with an intermission of sorts caused by the need to change discs. These breaks are located at the formation of the Fellowship, the capture of Sam and Frodo, and the appearance of the wolf's head battering ram. Warner’s new 4K Ultra HD release includes both the Theatrical Cuts and Extended Editions of each film, the former contained on a single UHD disc for each film while the latter are split over two UHD discs each.
